Aug. zs, 1951 P. PowELL v FOUNTAIN RECEPTACLE 2 sheets--smeet4 2 Filed Oct. l, 1947 Patentecl Aug. 28, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE RECPTAL Prosper` Powell, NorfolkyVa; i Application oetotri, 1943, siii'N'a. 7'7'7358 v 7 Glaims: 1
My invention cons'istv in nw and usefiil provenents in a fountain receptacl'e for clear'isiii a'r'id retairiin'g i'cel er'eam dippers, spo'o'n's, and the likev in the operation of a so'da` fountain and hs for' its object to provide such a devite which simple in. construction; convenient and san1= tary use and one which may be readily re nio've'd froin the fountain well or syrup rail for purposes of cleaning andster'ilizatio'n;
Sanitary laws require that equipment of this character be frequently removed and thoro'ughly cleaned and sterilized. Heretofore, considerable difiiculty and inco'nven'ience have been encoun tered by Soda fountain operators in disconnecting the running water andv drainage'- conduits when it became necessary to remove a recepta'cle from the fountain well, whichl often necessitat'ed reaching under the fountain and generally dis turbing the fountain pifoeedure` whenever removal of the receptacle wasrequired.
With my improved receptacle, the running water Supply and the clrainV are so eonnected and arranged in connectionwith the meansv for suspending the receptaclein the fountain well that the device may be simply lifted from the well and the water supplyV and drainb readily disconnected from a point above they fountain. deek.V
A further object of my inventiohis to provide a means for adj'ustably suspending the receptacl in a fountain well to compensate for variations in theV angle of inc'lination of thefountain deok whereby the receptacle is adaptable to various conventional soda fountainS. v
lStill another object of my invention is to provide in a fountain receptacle, a removable .partition Whereby the receptale may be divided to segregate different sizes of dippers and spoo'nls;
With the above and other objectsin view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention consistsin the novel features herein set forth, illustrated' inV the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings in which numerals of like character de'sign'ate siinilar parts throughout the several views: i
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved fountain receptacle;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan view partly insectloii. showing relationship of the adjustabl'e suspendi flahge to theV front wallp of the receptale;
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on line 3-3 of Fig. 4; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
i In the form shownin the drawin'gs; the body of the receptacl'e is rectangular iii Shape, having a front wall 5, a rear wall 6; and two endw'alls 'I and 8. A bottom 9, preferably of the false bot-1 to'r'n type, is Secured to all four walls at a predeteri'nined level above their lower extremitiesl, by means of downturhed fiangs which are brazed, welded orl otherwise Secured to the' walls of the re'eptacle as will be seen from Fig's'. 3 fld'l'.
A pair of outwardly directed' riht angle brack ets i'r'and Il are 'e'oui'ed to the front and' rear walls 5 and 6 respectively, of the receptacle for suspending the latter ifi a syrup rail or suitable well located in the deck of a soda fountain (not shown). The front bracket IO is ad-justably mounted inv vertical slidi'ng relation to the upper portionl of the front wall 51, by means of oppo; Stely disposed guide anglies 23, fiXed to the front coi'ners of the receptacle. The guide angles I2 are rigidly sei'nired. to respective side walls Ie-8; with the front leg of each angle spac'ed forwar'clly from the front wall 5, a suffi'cient distance* to slide ably accommodate the longitudinal extr'emiti'e's of thev vertical leg 13l of the suspending bracket IO. The front legs of bi'ackets 1'2 are provided with vertically eXtendi-ng slots 14l which coope'r ate' with adjusting nuts and bolts I5, carried by the vertical leg 13 of the fo'rwar bracket IO; whereby said bracket is verticall'y adjustable on the front wall 5 of the receptacle. The horizontal leg of the angle brack'et IU is' recessed at the nner ed'ges of its longitudinal extremities as at I'B to ac'cofnmodate the guide angles I2 and perrnt the vertical movement of the bra'cket.
The rear angle bracket H overlies the -inner face of the rear wall 6 a'djacent its upper edge and its vertical leg l'l is provided with vertical slots 18 for the'` recepton off' screws I 9- carried by the rear wall 6 adj'acent its upper edge/i, whereb7 the br'acket H ina'y' be readily lifted from the Wall (iv for the purpose-hereinafter set forth.
Inlet V'al've unit 20 isrigidly secure'd ,to the horizontali' l'eg' of the rear bracket II and in the form of the inven'tion shown, is provided with a pair of inl'et nozles 2! directed toward the ihe terior of the receptacle, a control handle 22 bleih provided f'or regulating' the fiow of water into' the receptacle. As will be seenfrom Fi'g. 4, the valve iihit 20 extends through the bra'cket H and is honhectejd on the under side of the bracke't ft'o a source of water supply (hot shown'b'y n'i'eahfsof a suitable flexible connection `l23,-'lo` ``:*a'fte'd-'iri'te'r nally beneath the deck of the fountain.
Adiacent the front wall 5 and preferably in One corner of the receptacle, I provide an overasessz the interior of the receptacle and is removably` Secured in place by bayonet Connections f29 or other fastening means fixed to the end walls"1 and 8. In addition to the series of perforations,
in the partition 28, I may provide an enlarged central Opening 36 which serves'the dual purpose of facilitating the flow of water through the partition and acting as a finger hole when removing the partition for cleanin'g.
In the use of myimproved fountain receptacle, the device is inserted in a conventional fountain well with the brackets I and II resting upon the deck of the receptacle adjacent the lupper extremity of the well. The forward bracket lil, as before stated, is adjustable vertically to compensate for variations in the angle of inclination of the deck of the fountain, the bracket being clamped in its proper position by the nut and screw assemblies I5.
When it is desired to remove the receptacle for purposes of Cleaning and sterilization, the screws IS invthe rear wall 6 of the receptacle, are loosened, permitting the rear bracket H, together with the valve unit 20, and flexible connection .23, to be lifted from the wall 6. The receptacle isV then bodily lifted from the well of the fountain and the coupling 25 removed from the overflow pipe 24. The partition 28 maybe removed by disengaging the bayonet connections 29 and sliding the partition out. After cleansing, the device is returned `to the fountain well by the reverse procedure.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a very convenient and practical receptacle which may be readily connected and disconnected and which may be used with various conventional soda fountains to greatly facilitate the handling of dippers and spoons.
