HARRY METZGER BY awk/4% 34 7mm) Patented Aug. 7, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CONVEBTIBLECOLLAR AND YOKE FOR 7 LADIES GARMENTS Harry Metzger, Brooklyn, N. Y.
This invention relates to a convertible collar and yoke for ladies blouses. and other wearing apparel and: has for its principal object the provisionof such a device that can readily be transformed from onestyli'sh arrangement to another, thus providing a multi purpose blouse, or garment.
Another object of the invention is the pro-= vision in thedevice of closing and connecting means which adapt the same to said variations in style or appearance;
Still another object of the invention is to construct the collar and yoke so that the same is capable ofbei'ng manufactured and assembled in a ladys blouse or' the like, economically.
For further comprehension of the invention, and" of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying" drawings, and to the appended claims; in. which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a blouse, incorporating 'the meansof the invention.
Fig;,2. is a rear. elevation of the, blouse.
Fig. 3 is a. detail. view illustrating the pattern for the. means of. the, invention.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional View on line 4--4 of Fig. 1.
Figs. 5 to are fragmentary front views illustrating various arrangements of the convertible collar of the blouse.
Fig. 11 is a front elevational view similar to Fig. 1, but illustrating the blouse constructed in accordance with a modification of the present invention.
Fig. 12 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 11.
Fig. 13 is a plan View of a portion of Fig. 11.
Fig. 14 is a developed view of the blank used for making one-half of the collar and yoke used in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 11 to 13.
The convertible collar and yoke, according to the first form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 10, is shown applied to a blouse body l5 which for the purposes of the invention may be of any desired style and material, the only limitation being that the same must have a large neck opening l6.
According to the invention, a yoke I! of ma terial similar to or the same as that of the blouse, is secured at its outer perimetral edge to the edge of the neck opening is by stitching I8. At its front the yoke H is slit vertically from its small neck opening 20 to the edge of theblouse neck opening It, as at 2.1;. At the upper-end of said, slit the material on either side thereof is extended to form a long: tapering tall. 22; Adjacent either; edge of the: slit 2| and also the under edge of each tail 22 there is provided. a plurality of regularly spaced buttonholes 231 In. the present instance three buttonholes are shown on either side of the slit andalso threev adjacent the lower edge of eachtail.
According to. the; invention, thebuttonholes areadaptedto be interconnected by ordinary cuff links 24 as indicated lIl1Flg., 1. or bya ribbon 25 as indicated in Fig. 10, in. a. variety'of'waysto provide the blouse with: a: wide numberof, stylish collar: and neckline appearances. A very large numberof collar and neckline: arrangements can be obtained by differentially" connecting the buttonholes with the: links: 24 orqthe; ribbon 25,.butior purposes of. clarity only a few are: illustrated herein.
In Fig. 5 the blouse is shown with the tails forming a collarand. with the slit,2,| completely open. Thus the plunging neckline. style, is obtained without utilizing, the links 2.4 or the ribbon 2.5. The neckline. can: of course,- be raised by utilizing one or: more cuff. links to; close up the slit 2] In Fig. 6 the blouse is shown in mandarin style, that is, with a high neckline and no c01- lar. For this arrangement the tails 22 are extended downward within the blouse, and the slit 2| is completely closed by means of three cuff links 24.
In Fig. '7 the blouse is provided with a high neckline and with a small collar. This is achieved by folding the ends of tails 22 rearward under their bases and by using the cuff links to close slit 2 I.
In Fig. 8 the blouse has a high neckline and the tails 22 are crossed stylishly. The crossed tails are held in place by a cuff link 24 passed through a buttonhole 23 in each.
In Fig. 9 the slit 2| is partially open to provide an open neckline and the tails 22 are looped, being held in place each by a cuff link engaging the endmost buttonhole therein and also the adjacent top buttonhole at the side of slit 2|.
In Fig. 10 the neckline is high and the tails are brought together and extend downward, being held in place by a ribbon threaded through the several buttonholes therein and tied in a bow at the neck of the blouse.
It is believed that the few examples shown and described serve to illustrate the versatility of Figs. 11 to 14, the combined collar and yoke l1 of two part construction with each of the parts made of a blank I! similar to that shown in Fig, 14 butof opposite hand. Each of the blanks I I has a rearwardly projected extension l'l with adjacent ends of the extensions being stitched together and to the top edges of the back portion of the blouse body l5. The straight edge il of the main body of each of the blanks ll is stitched to the top edge of the back portion of the blouse body I5 to extend across the top of the shoulder, as shown most clearly in Fig. 13.
In other respects, the form of the invention shown in Figs. 11 to 14 is similar to that illus trated in Figs. 1 to and like reference numerals are used to identify like parts throughout the several views.
It is to be understood that this combined collar and yoke arrangement may be used in any type and size of garment.
While-I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A convertible yoke and collar for a garment having a large neck opening, which comprises a fabric yoke having a small neck opening and secured at its perimetral edge to the edge of the neck opening of the garment, said yoke being slit in front from the neck opening therein to the edge of the neck opening in the garment, a long tapering tail extended from each edge of the slit at the upper end thereof, and a plurality of buttonholes arranged along each edge of the slit and also along the under edge of each tail.
2. A convertible yoke and collar for a garment having a large neck opening, which comprises a fabric yoke having a small neck opening and secured at its perimetral edge to the edge of the neck opening of the garment, said yoke being slit in front from the neck opening therein to the edge of the neck opening in the garment, a long tapering tail extended from each edge of the slit at the upper end thereof, and a plurality of buttonholes arranged along each edge of the slit and also along the under edge of each tail, said fabric yoke being of one-piece construction.
3. A convertible yoke and collar for a garment having a large neck opening, which comprises a fabric yoke having a small neck opening and secured at its perimetral edge to the edge of the neck openin of the garment, said yoke being slit in front from the neck Opening therein to the edge of the neck opening in the garment, a long tapering tail extended from each edge of the slit at the upper end thereof, and a plurality of buttonholes arranged along each edge of the slit and also along the under edge of each tail, said fabric yoke bein of two-part construction.
4. A convertible yoke and collar for a garment having a large neck opening, which comprises a fabric yoke having a small neck opening and secured at its perimetral edge to the edge of the neck opening of the garment, said yoke being slit in front from the neck opening therein to the edge of the neck opening in the garment, a long tapering tail extended from each edge of the slit at the upper end thereof, and a plurality of buttonholes arranged along each edge of the slit and also along the under edge of each tail, said fabric yoke being of two-part construction, said two-part yoke having adjacent ends secured together at the back of the blouse.
