This invention relates to a rack for supporting flexibly-bound catalogues, or pamphlets, or sheets.

It is necessary in mercantile establishments to have a multiplicity of catalogues and price sheets of the various articles of merchandise. It is desirable to have these catalogues and sheets supported in a manner permitting convenient and ready reference.

The principal object of this invention is to provide a rack which will support one or more binders containing catalogues, pamphlets, or sheets, in such a manner that any desired binder may be drawn from the rack to a free, accessible, and flat open position, with a moderate convenient tilt toward the operator.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the device that any desired catalogue, pamphlet, or sheet, may be quickly and easily detached from or replaced in the binder.

A further object of the invention is to so construct the device that any desired binder may be quickly and easily the rack so that the binders will be readily portable.

Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efficiency. These will become more apparent from the following description.

In the following detailed description of the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.

The holder comprises an open, box-like frame consisting of a bottom board I0, a back board I I, and two end boards [2. The front and the top of the frame are open. A plurality of volume separators l3 extend horizontally forward from the back board I I in parallel relation. The frame may be of any length to contain any desired number of volumes. As illustrated, it is designed to support three volumes, indicated in broken line at l4, I5, and I6.

The volumes are provided with two relative stiff covers as indicated in broken line, punched with round holes along the inner, or binding edge. The catalogues, pamphlets, or sheets to be supported in the volumes, are punched with section, taken on the back plate employed detached from or replaced The plate 2 holes along the binding edge. Binding rods I! pass completely through the covers, catalogues, pamphlets and sheets. The binding rods extend through an elongated, channel-shaped backing plate I8 of sufi'icient width to receive the back of the volumes. One extremity of each binding rod i1 is turned to form an L-shape, and the turned extremity is bent back upon itself to form an open handle portion IS. The guide member 23 is provided with a stop slot 24, one side of which is indented and the other side of which is raised to form an abutment for a latch pin 25. The latch pin is mounted in a bracket 26 which is hingedly mounted on the top of the rear extremity of the plate [8 by means of hinge hooks which engage in hook openings in the plate Ill. The weight of the bracket 26 and the pin 25 force the latter downwardly so that when the plate It] is pulled outwardly on the guide 23, the pin will engage the abutment formed by the slot 24 to limit the outward movement of the plate IS. The plate l8 can be compietely removed from the guide 23 by simply lifting the hinged bracket 26 upwardly sufiiciently to release the latch 25 from the slot 24.

The guide member 23 is telescopically received in a similarly shaped and slightly larger guide track 21 having similar inwardly turned edges which slidably receive the side edges of the guide member 23. The longitudinal movement of the guide member 23 in the track 21 is limited by a stop pin 28 which extends downward and travels in an elongated slot 21in the track 2?. The track 2'! is fixedly mounted on an inverted, U-shaped hinge bracket 39 having downwardly turned bearing ears through which a hinge pin 3! passes. The hinge pin is supported in pin clips 32 secured to the base board H) by means of suitable screws.

When not in use, the volumes are slid between the volume separators it which support them in the upright position of Fig. 4. Access may be had to any volume by simply pulling it from the frame, causing the guide member 23 to travel outwardly in the guide member 23 until the latch pin 25.engages the abutment of the stop slot 24.

It is returned by simply closing the volume and pushing it toward the receiving frame so that the members 2|, 23, and 21 automatically telescope together.

While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:

l. A holder or binder for supporting catalogues, pamphlets or sheets, comprising: a channelshaped back plate adapted to extend across the back of catalogues, pamphlets, or sheets, and upwardly at each side of said back; binding pins, extending through the catalogues, pamphlets, or sheets, between the upstanding sides of said back plate, for locking them therein; a slide member secured to and below the back plate and extending longitudinally thereof, the side edges of said slide member being spaced from, and in parallel relation to, the lower surface of said back plate; a guide member having upwardly and inwardly turned edges telescopically receiving the side edges of said slide member; a track member similar in construction to said guide member and having upwardly and inwardly turned side edges slidably receiving said guide member; a hinge secured to and below said track member upon which said track member may be tilted; and means for mounting said hinge on a supporting surface.

2. A holder for supporting loose-leaf volumes, comprising: a channel-shaped'back plate adapted to extend across the back of a volume and upwardly at each side of said back; binding pins extending through the volume between the upstanding sides of saidback plate for locking the pages therein; a slide member secured to and below the back plate and extending longitudinally thereof, the side edges of said slide member bein spaced from, and in parallel relation to, the lower surface of said back plate; a guide member having upwardly and inwardly turned edges telescopically receiving the side edges of said slide member; a track member similar in con- ,struction to said guide member and having upwardly and inwardly turned side edges slidably receiving said guide member; a hinge secured below said track upon which said track member may be tilted; means for mounting said hinge on a supporting surface; and means for limiting the longitudinal movement of said guide in said track member.

3. A holder for supporting loose-leaf volumes, comprising: a channel-shaped back plate adapted to extend across the back of a volume and upwardly at each side of said back; binding pins extending through the volume between the upstanding sides of said back plate for locking the pages therein; a slide member secured to and below the back plate and extending longitudinally thereof, the side edges of said slide member being spaced from, and in parallel relation to, the lower surface of said back plate; a guide member having upwardly and inwardly turned edges telescopically receiving the side edges ofsaid slide 4 member; a track member similar in construction to said guide member and having upwardly and inwardly turned side edges slidably receiving said guide member; a hinge secured below said track upon which said track member may be tilted; means for mounting said hinge on a supporting surface; means for limiting the longitudinal movement of said guide in said track member; a hinged bracket member mounted on and projecting rearwardly from said back plate; a latch pin extending downward from said bracket member against said guide member; and means on said guide member to be engaged by said pin to limit the outward movement of said back plate on said guide member.

4. A holder for supporting loose-leaf volumes, comprising: a channel-shaped back plate adapted to extend across the back of a volume and upwardly at each side of said back; binding pins extending through the volume between the upstanding sides of said back plate for locking the. pages therein; a slide member secured to and below the back plate and extending longitudinally thereof, the side edges of said slide member being spaced from, and in parallel relation to, the lower surface of said back plate; a guide member having upwardly and inwardly turned edges telescopically receiving the side edges of said slide member; a track member similar in construction to said guide member and having upwardly and inwardly turned side edges slidably receiving said guide member; a hinge secured below said track upon which said track member may be tilted; a bottom board; means for securing said hinge to said bottom board; a back board projecting upwardly from said bottom board at the rear of said track; and means extending forwardly from said back board for supporting the sides of said volume when not in use.

5'. A holder for supporting loose-leaf volumes, comprising: a channel-shaped back plate adapted to extend across the back of a volume and upwardly at each side of said back; binding pins extending through the volume between the upstanding sides of said back plate for locking the pages therein; a slide member secured to and below theback plate and extending longitudinally thereof, the side edges of said slide member being spaced from, andin parallel relation to, the lower surface of said back plate; a guide member having upwardly and inwardly turned edges telescopi-. cally receiving the side edges of said slide member; a track member similar inconstruction tosaid guide member and having upwardly and inwardly turned side edges slidably receiving said guide member; a hinge secured below said track upon which said track member may be tilted; means for mounting said hinge on a supporting surface, said slide projecting forwardly from said back plate; and an upwardly turned hook formed on the forward extremity of said slide.
