This invention relates to amachine designed to remove weeds and trash collected in the ridge of gravel or dirt left by the road maintenance crew by screening the gravel from the weeds and trash and conveying the trash to the ditch.
Under ordinary conditions the trash remains in the gravel and such mixture increases in size collecting snow in winter and hindering road maintenance and automobile travel.
An object of this invention is to provide a machine equipped with a separate motor or a power take off that may be pulled by a truck or tractor to screen the gravel and remove the trash therefrom.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a simple, durable and ecient machine which is easy to operate and can be readily transported from location to location.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafterl described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan View thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 2 and W chain connection 42 with on the transverse shaft 46 journalled in the body I4. The shaft 46 is in inclined spaced relation with a shaft 48 and both shafts are provided with rollers 50 to mount the endless conveyor 52 thereon. 'Ihus the conveyor 52 will travel over the rollers 50 simultaneously with the conveyor 24.
Shaft 48 is provided with a gear 54 engaging with a gear 56 on the transverse shaft 58 journalled in the body I4. A sprocket gear 60 on shaft 58 has a chain drive connection 62 with a sprocket gear 64 mounted on shaft E5 which is journalled in the vertical extensions 68 on the forward end of the body I4. The shaft 66 has a reel 1D mounted thereon the purpose of which will be later described.
Pivotally mounted between the sides of the body I4 are the triangular shaped plates 'l2 which are mounted in spaced relation to each other to provide a rake or comb structure which at the forward end will contact the surface and the rear end will terminate adjacent the conveyor 52.
A U-shaped shaft bail-14 is pivotally mounted on the axle I2 and lever 16 pivoted to the bail and to the extension 68 by link 18 will upon manipulation thereof raise vor lower the front end of the body I4 as desired.
The machine when towed by a truck or tractor will as it advances over the surface disturb the the sprocket gear 44 3 formed at the rear end thereof with a laterally extending portion, the improvement comprising, a pair of shafts journalled in said body transversely thereof, rollers on said shafts, an endless conveyor on said rollers, a pair of shafts jour-nailed in said laterally extending portion, rollers on said shafts, an endless conveyor on said rollers, a sprocket and chain drive connection between one of the shafts in the body and one of the shafts in the laterally extending portions to permit simultaneous operation of said endless conveyors, a motor carried by said laterally extending portion and having a driving connection with the remaining shaft in said laterally extending portions, vertical extensions on the body opposite to the end on which the laterally extending portion is formed, a shaft journalled in said extensions, a reel on said shaft, a chain drive connected between said last shaft and the other of the shafts journalled in said body, whereby 4 said reel will operate simultaneously with said conveyor, a rake structure mounted in said body forward of the conveyor carried thereby, a shaft bail on said body, linkage connections between the bail and one of the vertical extensions for elevating the front end of the body and ground engaging Wheels carried by the body rearwardly of the shaft bail.
