Application December 19, 1945, Serial No. 636,033 In Great Britain January 12, 1945 thermionic valves, plugs and like electrical devices and more particularly to holders of the kind comprising superposed sheets of insulating material provided with a central socket having resilient fingers adapted to look a central guide pin of, the valve or the like which is to be inserted in the holder.
In the case where the superposed sheets are spaced a standard distance apart, the centre contact has been secured to the top plate by rivet- -tingover the top of the contact and engaged with the bottom plate by providing ahead on the contact above the inner end of the fingers, which bead is arranged to underplate. If, however, the plates are spaced a greater distance apart it is not possible for the contact to engage the underplate without decreasing the efiective length of the spring fingers to such an extent as to prevent aneiiective locking. action with the valve guidepin being attained. It is an object of the present invention to mount the centre contact in such a manner as to overcome this drawback.
According to the present invention the centre contact of the holder is mounted on a member secured to one of the superposed sheets and having a portion extending between the adjacent sheets and secured to the contact at or above the inner end of the resilient fingers.
To enable the invention to be fully understood it will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 3 is a plan view of a supporting member for the centre socket, and
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan of part of the bottom plate of the holder.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the holder comprises a top plate I and an under or bottom plate 2 both formed of sheets of insulating material and spaced apart by insulating washers 2a. The plate I is formed with a series of pin-receiving apertures 3 adapted to register with pin-receiving sockets (not shown) mounted on the plate 2. The plate I is also provided with a centre aperture 4 shaped to receive a centre or guide pin-receiving socket 5 which extends through the central aperture 6 in the plate 2. The socket 5 is of known form and comprises a body and resilient depending fingers I urged by a spring 8 to grip an inserted guide pin.

The upper end of the contact 5 is secured to the plate I by the flange 5a. 1 V j By the use of the present invention the spacing of the plates of the holder may be varied to accommodate difierent thicknesses of the supports to which the holder is to be attached without impairing the effective length or resilience .of the locking fingers. The series of valve pin contacts normally arranged round the centre contact may be adapted to have the whole of the pin-receiving portions located between the plates of the holder, instead of part thereof being in slots in the underplate as is necessary when the standard spacing of the plates is adhered to.
I claim:
1. A holder for thermionic valves, plugs and like electrical device comprising a plurality of superposed plates of insulating material, including a top, bottom and intermediate plates, said plates having central apertures disposed in alignment, said top plate having pin-receiving apertures disposed therein, the central aperture of said bottom plate having larger dimensions than the central apertures of the other plates and slots extending from the edges of said aperture, a center socket for receiving a guide pin having a body portion disposed in said central apertures with one end secured to said top plate and the other end extending below said. intermediate plate, said central socket having resilient depending fingers extending from said other end for engaging a guide pin inserted in said socket, and a metal supporting member comprising an axially extending annular wall surrounding said socket having an inwardly extending flange at one end adjacent said intermediate plates secured to said socket body between said ends thereof and outwardly extending lugs at the other end engaged in said slots.
2. A holder for thermionic valves, plugs and like electrical devices comprising a plurality of superposed plates of insulating material, including a top, bottom and intermediate plates, said plates having central apertures disposed in alignment, said top plate having pin-receiving apertures disposed therein, the central aperture of said bottom plate having larger dimensions than the central apertures of the other plates and having opposed slots extending from the edges of said aperture, a center socket for receiving a guide pin having a body portion disposed in said central apertures with an outwardly extending flange at one end engaging the top surface of said top plate and with the other end extending below said intermediate plate, said central socket having resilient depending fingers extending from said other end for engaging a guide pin inserted in said socket, and a metal supporting member comprising an axially extending annular wall loosely surrounding said socket having an inwardly extending flange at one end adjacent said intermediate plate in secured engagement with said socket body between said ends thereof and outwardly extend-ing opposed lugs at the other end provided with portions engaged in said slots.
3. A holder for thermionic valves, plugs and like-electrical devices comprising a plurality of super-posed plate of insulating material, including a top, bottom and intermediate plates, said plates having central apertures disposed in alignment, said top plate having pin-receiving aper- 'plates with an outwardly extending flange at one end of said body portion in engagement with the 'top surface of said topplate and resilient depending fingers extending from the other end of said body portion for engaging a guide pin insorted in said socket, and a metal supporting "member comprising-an-axially extending annular wall loosely surrounding said socket within the central aperture of said bottom plate having an inwardly extending flange at one end in soldered engagement with the body portion of said socket and outwardly extending opposed lugs at the other end provided with upwardly extending portion frictionally engaged in said slots.
' 4. A holder for thermionic valves, plugs and electrical devices comprising a plurality of superposed plates of insulating material, including top,
bottom, and intermediate plates, said plates having central apertures disposed in alignment, said top plate having pin-receiving apertures, the central aperture of said bottom plate having a larger diameter than the central apertures of the other plates and having slots extending from the edges of said aperture, a, center socket for receiving a guide pin with a body portion extending through the central apertures of said top and intermediate plates with an outwardly extending flange at one end of said body portion in engagement with the top surface of said top plate and resilient fingers depending from the other end of said .body portion, and a metal supporting member comprising an axially extending annular wall loosely surrounding said socket within the central aperture of said bottom plate having an inwardly extending flange at one end in soldered engagement with the body portionof said socket between said fingers and said intermediate plates and outwardly extending lugs at the other end provided with upwardly extending portions frictionally engaged in said slots.
