This invention relates to a cuff link of particularly the type which is adapted to secure together two portions of a cufl' of the French type wherein there are several thicknesses or plies of material which are in face to face rela tion.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide a pair of fixed heads to extend over the opposite surfaces and about the edges of a cuff with some means to extend through the button holes to retain the heads in position.

Another object of this invention is to provide a cuff link which will be maintained about the opposite edges of the cuff without rotation in the button hole.

Another object of the invention is to provide a post which may be passed through the button holes of the cuff and held in position by being moved into proximity with one of the fixed legs of a U shaped head member.

Another object of this invention is to provide a construction which may be released by a relative sliding movement of its parts.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out specifically in the appended claims.

In proceeding with this invention, I provide a U shaped member which acts as both heads of the cuff link, with a post for extending through the button holes and which is slidably mounted on one of these heads or leg portions of the U shaped member to be moved in close proximity to the other leg or head to prevent detachment from a cuff. The post may be slid to space itself from the head or leg which is companion to the leg on which it slides so that the edge may be detached from the cuff by lifting the post out of the button holes of the cuff.

With reference to the drawings, I have bent from a piece of solid stock of strip formation, a U shaped member, which is designated generally I comprising the bent portion H with op posite legs or heads l2 and 13 extending therefrom. The bent portion, ii, is located about the adjacent edges 14 and i of a French cuff, as shown in Figure 1, so that it lies in a face to face engagement with the opposite face portions of the cuff.

(01. 24-1005) A post it? is generally L shaped, having an arm if to extend through the button holes l8 and 59 of the cuff and an arm 20 which is slidable through a guide 21 located on the inner surface of the head or leg 12 of the member 10. Recesses 22 and 23 are provided in this arm 29 so as to selectably engage a detent 24 on the inner surfaces of the guide 2i to hold the arm 20 either in the full line position shown in Figure 4 or the dotted line position, shown in Figure 4.

It will be readily apparent that when the post is in the dotted line position, shown in Figures 3 and 4, that it may be passed through the button holes of a cuff with the opposite legs or heads on either side of the cuff and then by relatively sliding the post on the heads, it will be drawn into position shown in Figure 1 and then looked so as to maintain the edges of the cuff in a face to face closed position.

I claim:

1. A cuff link comprising a U shaped member to engage in face to face relation the outer surface of one edge part of a cuff and extend about the edge of the cuff to engage in face to face relation the outer surface of the other edge part of the cuff and a post slidably mounted on the inner surface of one of the legs of the U member to extend at right angles thereto and when slid to its outermost position to be located beyond the end of the leg of the U member which is companion to the leg on which it is slidably mounted so that it may be passed through the button holes of a cuff and when slid inwardly to be located inwardly of the end of the legs and to extend close to the opposite leg of the U and block the removal from the button holes of a cuff, and recess and detent means on said post and the leg along which it slides to hold the post in a predetermined position.

2. A cuff link as in claim 1 wherein said post is L shaped.

3. A cuff link as in claim 1 wherein the legs of said U member are of substantially equal length.

4. A cuff link, as in claim 1, wherein the legs of the U members are in acutely angled planes.
