ARCHED TURN BUTTON Filed NOV. 30, 1948 AITCI R N EYS Patented May 1, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a device for holding a window or door frame in a casing.
The object of the invention is to provide a device which will releasably hold a window or door frame in its casing, whether the frame is thicker, thinner, or on the same level as the casing.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for holding a window or door frame in a casing without gouging the frame, or causing rust streaks or wood rot.
A further object of the invention is to provide a window-holding device which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating the device in use for holding a window frame in a casing;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view of a Window frame and casing, with the holding device applied thereto;
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the holding device;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view of a window frame and a casing of greater thickness, and illustrating the device applied thereto.
Referring in detail to Figures 1 to 5 of the drawings, the numeral I designates a portion of a casing for receiving therein a frame The frame I I may be the frame of a storm or screen window, a combination door, cupboard, etc.
For releasably holding the window frame H in the casing 0, a plurality of holding devices l2 are provided, and each of the devices is preferably fabricated of cold rolled steel with an electro-galvanized, rust-proof finish thereon. The holding device I2 comprises an arcuate top portion I 3 shaped to define a central enlarged shoulder M which is apertured, as at 5. A headed screw 20 is inserted through the aperture l and into the casing ID for securing the holding device thereto. Extending from the top portion I3 is a pair of spaced side portions 16 and H, the side portions l6 and I! each having a cut-out l8 intermediate their ends. The lower or free ends of the side portions l6 and I! each terminate in a transversely-disposed flange I9,
The device is shown in Figures 1 and 2 as releasably holding a window frame H in a casing 50 wherein the frame and easing have the same thickness. In Figure 6, the device is shown being used for holding a window frame 2|, or the like, in a casing 22 in which the casing 22 has a greater thickness than the Window frame 2|. The device may be also used when the window frame 2| is on a higher level, than the casing 22. The holding device of the present invention does not require a shim to be positioned on the thinnest surface when there is a difference in the thickness of the casing and the frame. By manually rotating the holding device, the window frame can be released from its casing. Further, since the side portions are each cut away, as at I8, there is only a small surface which contacts the casing and frame, so that rust streaks, wood rot, and frame gouge will be greatly reduced.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a holding device fabricated of a single piece of steel and having a rust-proof finish thereon, said piece of steel being shaped to providea longitudinally extending arcuate top portion, said top portion having a central enlarged shoulder, there being a countersunk aperture in said shoulder for receiving a securing element, a pair of spaced parallel longitudinally extending side portions extending from said top portion, the lower edges of said side portions being cut away intermediate the ends thereof, and a transversely disposed flange projecting from the lower edges of each of said side portions the ends of said side portions projecting below the intermediate sections of said side portions.
ALFRED R. AMUNDSON.
