SMKING PIPE Fued Aug. 24, 1948 F/G. l.

3 Claims.
Another object is to provide a smoking pipe that is easily cleaned and readily assembled.
` A further object is to provide a smoking pipe that does not permit flakes of tobacco or other material from entering the mouthpiece.
And a further object of the invention is to provide a pipe that can be laid down and in which the collected condensed vapors cannot now back into the bowl from the condensing chamber,
The forgoing and other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a side view in section of an assembled pipe.
Figure 2 is a side view in section of the condensing chamber of the pipe. y Figurev 3 is an end view in section taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.v c
Figure 4 is an end view in section taken on line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a side view in section of the center tube of the pipe.
And Figure 6 is a top plan view of the center tube.
Referring in more detail to the drawings, in Figure 1, bowl II is open. at the top at I2 for the packing and tamping of tobacco or other smoking herbs, and has a threaded nipple I3 at the base for screwing into the threaded opening I4 located intermediate the ends of and in the top of the tubular stem I5. A second opening I6, also threaded, is forward of the rst opening and closed by a hollow screw plug I1 having a central domed peak I8.
The forward end of the stem I5 has a third opening I9 closed by threaded plug 20. Plugs I1 and 20 may be constructed of the same size and shape if desired in order that they be interchangeable with each other. The rearward end of the stem is threaded for a portion of its length at 2|' and into it is screwed the bit 22.
An axial bore 23 extends through the bit and communicates with the condensing chamber I5 defined by the interior of the stem between the bit 22 and the plug 20. The tube 24, shown in Figures 5 and 6, also has an axial bore 25 and iiange 26 which is held in the end of the chamber I5 against the forward end of the bit 22 by shoulder 21 formed in the chamber adjacent the threaded portion 2 I.
The tube 24 extends axially through the major portion of the condensing chamber I5 and curves upwardly at 28 into the dome I8 formed in the As will be readily seen in the drawings, smoke and vapors from the burning tobacco will be drawn through the nipple I3 into the space around the inner tube 24 in the chamber I5', and moisture will condense from the vapors while the smoke and aromatic contents of the burning tobacco will be drawn upwards against the dome I8 of the plug I1 and downwardly through the tube 24 into the bit 22. The pipe is easily cleaned by removing either the end plug 20 or the dome plug I1, or by removing the bowl and the bit o1' either of them.
It is to be understood that various modifications and changes may be made in this invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the appended claims.`
What is claimed is:
1. A smoking pipe comprising a tubular stem having an open forward end and an open rearward end, a bowl mounted on said stem and communicating therewith at a point intermediate the forward and rearward ends thereof, a bit closing the rearward end of said stem and having a bore communicating with the interior of said stem, means closing the forward end of said stem, the space in said stem between said means and the forward end of said bit constituting a condensing and collecting chamber, the top wall of said stem being formed with an opening located between the forward end of said stem and the point of communication of said bowl with said stem, an upwardly domed hollow plug removably closing said opening, and a tube supported in said chamber and extending axially therein in spaced relation to the stem wall, said tube communicating at its rearward end with the bore of said bit and having an upwardly directed forward end open at its terminal, said terminal projecting upwardly into the interior of said domed cap.
2. A smoking pipe comprising a tubular stem` the space in said stem between said means and the forward end of said bit constituting a condensing and collecting chamber, the top wall of said stem being formed with an opening located between the forward end of said stem and the point of communication of said bowl with said stem, an upwardly domed hollow plug removably closing said opening, a tube supported in said chamber and extending axially therein in spaced relation to the stem wall, said tube communiz cating at its rearward end with the bore of said bit and having an upwardly directed forward end open at its terminal, said terminal projecting upwardly into the interior of said domed cap, an
municating therewith at a point intermediate the j.,
forward and rearward ends thereof, a bit closing the rearward end of said stem and having a bore communicating with the interior of said stem, means closing the forward end of said stern, the
space in saidi stem between said means and the forward end of said bit constituting a condensing and collecting chamber, the top wall of said stem being formed with an opening located between the forward end of said stem and the point of communication of said bowl with said stem, an upwardly domed hollow plug removably closing said opening, and a tube supported in said chamber and extending axially therein in spaced relation to the stem Wall, said tube communicating at its rearward end with the bore of said bit and having an upwardly directed forward end open at its terminal, said terminal projecting upwardly into the interior of said domed cap, said forward end of said tube curving upwardly with its terminal positioned in concentrically spaced relation to theA interior of said hollow plug and in axially spaced relation thereto.
