Description

Patented Apr. `17, 1951 Y UNITED s PATENT DUST AND LINT BLOWER FoR sPINNlNG FRAMES Y Luther vY. Herren,l "ayette, Ala. l "Y Applicatin January 1s, 1950,seria1N0. 139,289
The principal objectof this invention Vis to provide means for continuously blowing dust and lint out from under a spinning frame, thereby saving the labor of a sweeper in the mill and keeping the spinning frame and vfloor therebeneath clear of dust and lint at all times. Another-object is to provide a blower of the character designated which shall serve to keep the flexible drive member between the cylinder and the spindles tight and at the same time rotate a fan by means of said drive member.
A further object is to provide a blower of the character designated which shall have meansas-v sociated therewith for protecting the blower and other parts of the spinning frame from damage in event the flexible drive member should break.
A blower for spinning frames embodying the features of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this ap-l der I2 of the frame by means of a flexible drive member I3, such as a belt or a b and. In the manner understood the cylinder is driven by a suitable motor or the like, not shown. The drive memberV I3 makes two or more complete turns of the cylinder I'2 and drives the spindles I I and I Ia.
My dust and lint blower comprises a supporting bracket I4 whichis rigidly connected to the frame Ill by means of bolts I6. Pivotally mounted adjacent the inner end of the bracket at I1 is an arm I8 carrying a weight I9. On the inner Y end of the arm I8 is'journaled a shaft 2I vhaving a pulley 22 on one end thereof and a fan23 on the other end. The flexible drive member I3 also passes around the pulley 22 and thus drives the fan 23 while the weight I 9 and the weight of the fan 23 and arm I8 serve to keep said. drive member tight on the pulley 22, the cylinder I2 and the spindles II and IIa. A grease tting 25 y6 Clarins. (el. 57-56) may be provided on the end offbracket I8 through 'which lubricant maybe supplied to shaft 2|.
Rigidly secured toY the supporting bracket I4 area pair of stop members in the form of brackets 24 and 26. The stop member 24 extendsup- 1 wardly of the supporting bracket I4 while the stop member 26 extends downwardly of .said bracket I4. Said stop members 24 and '26 have extensions 2'! and 28, respectively, on their outer ends positioned to be engaged by the arm I8 andl thereby limit the upward and downward movement of the arm in event the drive member I3should break. This .limits the fan 23 vand arm I8 vfrom engagement with other parts of the spinning frame should the drive member I3 break. Should the drive member break, without such protecting armsit possibly would tangle in.v the pulley orfan and pull the assembly up into the frame, or if the drive member did not pull the fan up into the frame the fan would fall onto the lower frame work or floor and thereby damage the framework or fan blades.
In operation, the drive member I3 is driven by the cylinder I2 and thereby' causes the spindles II and I Ia, the pulley 22 and the fan 23 to rotate.
, As the fan rotates, dust, lint, or the like is blown along the length of and from under the spinning frame. The weight of the fan 23 plus the mass of weight I9 prevents the drive member I3 from slipping on the spindles, cylinder and pulley 22.
While, I show a spinning frame equipped with only one of my improved dust and lint blowers it will be apparent that, if necessary, a plurality of such blowers may be mounted in the manner disclosed on the spinning frame at intervals and driven by the cylinder I2. Also, while I show a flexible drive member inthe form of a rope,
it will be apparent 4that the blower may be driven bya tape or band drive member. Further it will be appreciated that my invention is adapted for use on spinning frameswherein a single flexiblel drive member drives more than two spindles, as in those cases in which each belt or band drives Vfour spindles.
l oFFIfCfif' y that it is not so limited, but is susceptible of various changes and modifications, without departing from the spirit thereof, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be placed thereupon as are specically set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. Inna dust and lint blower for spinning frames havingY a driven cylinder and a spindle, a supporting bracket rigidly secured to the lower portion of the frame, an arm pivotally mountedl to the bracket and extending inwardly oi the spinning frame, a fan having a pulley opera-f tively connected thereto and mounted for rotation on the arm, and a flexible drive member .passing around said spindle, cylinder, andY pulley.
2. A dust and lint blower for spinning frames having a driven cylinder and a spindle, a supporting bracket rigidlyr secured: to: the frame at a point; below. the spindle,l an arm pivotally mounted', to the bracket and extending inwardly of the spinning frame; a. pulley,Y a fana operatively: connected; toA the pulley and rotatably 4 brackets extending upwardly of the supporting bracket and the other thereof extending downwardly of the supporting bracket, and extensions on the ends of said pair of brackets disposed to be engaged by the pivotally mounted arm upon movement of the latter beyond predetermined limits. Y
4. In a dust and lint blower for spinning frames havingv a driven" cylinder; andi a spindle, a bracket secured; to the` frame at a, point thereon below the spindle, an arm pivotally mounted to the bracket and extending inwardly of the spinning frame, a shaft journaled adjacent the free end of" said' arm, a pulley mounted on one end of said shaft, a fan mounted on the other end-l of' saidshaft, and a driving band passing f .around4 said spindle, cylinder and pulley.
5. In a dust and lint blower for spinning flrameshaving a driven cylinder and a plurality of spindles, a bracket rigidly secured to the franreheljow: at lea-st one off-said spindlesgaio; arm pivotally mounted. to` said bracket and `extending" inwardly of the. spinning frame, a. pulley and a. fan operatively,v connected thereto and jOurna-led for rotation on the inner4 end of the arm, and a flexible.- drive member passing around a plurality of said spindles and aroundf the cylinder and pulley.V l Y 6:. A. dust and lint blower for spinning frames as dened' inv claim. 5 in` which. a weight is mounted" on the pivotally. mountedarm.
