This invention is directed to, and it is an object to provide, an improved bathtub.

A further object of the invention is to provide a novel bathhub including a main bathing compartment, and a secondary compartment adapted for washing the hair, clothes, and the like, or for use as an infants bath tub.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a double compartment bathtub which includes the secondary compartment, as above, beyond the head end of the main compartment; there being a partition, of novel configuration, between said main and secondary compartments.

Another object of the invention is to provide a double compartment bathtub, as in the preceding paragraph, in which the partition is formed, at the upper edge and intermediate its ends, with a rounded depression or cradle; such cradle being for use as a head or neck rest, and also serving to permit one compartment to'overflow into the other compartment without spillage from the bathtub.

It is also an object to provide a double oompartment bathtub which is practical, convenient, and of modern design.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simple in structure, and economical to manufacture, double compartment bathtub, and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for which it is designed.

These objects are accomplished by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

In the drawings:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the novel double compartment bathtub.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the bathtub taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary transverse section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the double compartment bathtub is indicated generally at I; its exterior design being modern and adapted to abut a wall line 2 along the inner edge.

The bathtub I includes a main, elongated bathing compartment 3, and beyond the head end of the compartment 3 there is a, separate smaller and secondary compartment 4; both of said compartments being of substantially the same depth.

The main compartment 3 drains toward its foot end, and the secondary compartment 4 drains toward the corresponding end; said compartments being fitted with drain outlets 5 and 6,

respectively. Each compartment is provided with a drain outlet plug I, retained by a chain 8.

The main compartment 3 and secondary compartment 4 are separated, in the tub structure, by an upstanding transverse partition, indicated generally at 9. The partition 9 includes, at the head end of the main compartment 3, a forwardly and downwardly inclined wall I0 which forms a back rest in said main compartment 3 at the said head end thereof. The partition 9 additionally includes a vertical wall I I which defines one side of the secondary compartment 4,

At its upper edges, and substantially centrally of its ends, the partition 9 is formed with a rounded depression or cradle I2 which extends downwardly some distance below the horizontal plane of the upper edges l3 of the bathtub.

The cradle I2 is fitted, in matching relation, with a removable pad I4 of sponge rubber or the like; the cradle I2 and pad I4 also being rounded or convex lengthwise of the tub.

The padded cradle I2 provides a very comfortable head or neck rest for a person bathing in the main compartment 3. Additionally, the padded cradle I2 may be used as a head rest for a person kneeling in the main compartment 3 and washing the hair in the secondary compartment 4.

The cradle I2 also provides a safety feature. When either compartment 3 or 4 is in use with its plug 1 in the corresponding drain outlet, the plug of the other compartment is left open. Thus, should the plugged drain compartment be accidentally filled beyond normal level, the excess water will overflow through the cradle I2, into the other compartment, and out of its open drain.

The bathtub may be provided with any suitable type of water supply faucet, but preferably a swing spout faucet, indicated diagrammatically at I5, will be mounted on the wall directly above the partition 9 and in position so that the swing spout I 6 may deliver to either the main compartment 3 or secondary compartment 4, as desired.

The described double-compartment bathtub is very practical and convenient to use.

The main compartment 3 is of course for usual bathing; the inclined wall In and the cradle I2 assuring of back and head comfort of the person. The smaller, secondary compartment 4 may be used for washing hair, clothes, or the like, or can be used as an infant's bath tub.

It is not the intention to here attempt to enumerate all of the useful purposes of the arrangement, and of which there are many.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that there has been produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention, as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended. claim.

Having thus described the invention, the following is claimed as new and useful, and upon which Letters Patent are desired:

A double compartment bath tub comprising an elongated main compartment and a relatively smaller independent secondary compartment beyond one end of the main compartment, the two being divided by an upstanding vertical wall, a separate drain outlet from each compartment,

.4 means to admit water selectively into either compartment, the top edge of the vertical wall being provided with a shallow cradle-like depression forming a head rest.
