8 Claims.
The present invention relates to invalids bed chair and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device of the character set forth having means whereby the same may be propelled manually in the manner Of a conventional invalids chair.
Another object of the invention is the provision, in a device of the character set forth, of hydraulic means for raising the invalid supporting portion of the device with respect to the chassis thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means whereby the invalid supporting portion of the device may be placed in a rigid reclining position at selected heights .with respect to the chassis.
= Another object of the invention is the provision of novel means, in a device of the character set forth, for the mounting of an axle forming a part of the invention.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing a portion of the device in elevated position,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary rear elevational view of the device shown in Figures 1 and 2,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary front elevational View thereof,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary side elevational view of a portion of the device,
Figure 6 is a plan view of Figure 5,
Figure 7 is a fragmentary side elevational view ofthe device in another position it may assume, and
Figure 8 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating certain details of the invention.
, Generally there is provided an invalids bedchair which is provided with a chassis having a vertically adjustable axle for a pair of relatively large wheels and having a pair of swivelly mounted wheels for further support. A seat is supported upon an hydraulic jack which is, in turn, operable by means of a foot lever and controllable by a hand-operated valve. The seat is provided with a pivotally mounted back having means for locking the same in selected positions and which is connected by arm rests with a footrest frame. Individual foot rests are so mounted as to be independently adjustable forwardly and angularly withrelation to the seat and foot-rest frame.
Referrin more particularly to the drawings, there is shown therein an invalids bed-chair having a chassis l having a pair of supporting casters I I at the rear thereof and havin an axle l2 selectively and adjustably mounted in a series of openings l 3 provided in either side of the forward end of the chassis.
In a dependant portion M of the chassis substantially centrally disposed thereon is aiiixed a base of a vertically extending piston I6.
Vertically slidable but non-revolubly mounted upon the piston I6 is a sleeve I! affixed to a collar l8 attached to the central portion of the bottom of a seat frame l9.
A hydraulic pump is mounted on the dependant portion M for raising and lowering the sleeve I! with respect to the piston I6 in conventional manner and a lever 2| is provided for the pump 20 and extending rearwardly and terminates in afoot pedal 22. A spring 23 interconnects the upper end of the chassis and the lever 2|.
The seat frame I9 is provided with a fixed seat and to ears 25 on the seat frame I9 is pivoted a back member 26 having an arcuate slotted brace 21 upon either side thereof. Bolts 28 upon either side of the seat frame l9 extend through the braces 21 which may be adjustably locked thereon by means of wingnuts 29;
. A U-shaped leg support frame 30 rests against the forward end of the seat frame l9 and is pivotally connected at its upper ends to the forward ends of arm rests 3|, the rear ends of which are pivotally connected to the back member 26.
At either side of the seat frame It ,is aiiixed a tube32 in each of which is slidably mounted a rod 33 the outer ends of which are provided with eyes 34 through which extends a transverse shaft 35. Upon the shaft 35 is revolubly mounted a pair of U-shaped leg supports 36 each having a foot rest 31.
;; The outer arms of each of the members 36 isprovidedwith a U-shaped bracket 33, the inner arm 39 of each of which is affixed to the shaft and the outer arm 40 of each of which is free to move. The shaft 35 extends through both arms 39 and 40 and a wingnut 4| is threadably mounted at either end of the shaft.
Various sized wheels 42 may be mounted upon the axle l2 and a valve operatin handle 43 extends upwardly and rearwardly from the pump A 20 from a release valve in said pump.
In operation, it will be apparent that the back 3 member may be affixed in any desired position from a horizontal one to a vertical one by means of the braces 21 and wingnuts 29, and that movement of the back will cause a corresponding movement of the frame 30 through its connection with the arm rests 3|. It will also be seen that the leg supports 36 may be moved forwardly and rearwardly by means of moving the rod 33 through the tubes 32 and locked in selected pO-. sitions by thumbscrews '44 mounted in the tubes. The leg supports may be selectively positioned angularly, also, by revolving the brackets 38 upon the shaft 35 and then tightening the wingnut-s 41 against the arms All to frictionally enceinpass the eyes 34 between the arms 39 and/ l0.
To raise the seat and its attendant mechanisms, it is only necessary to operatel'the pump. 20 by pressing down upon the pedal 22, the spring 23 acting to return the lever 2i and its pedal 22 to its normal upward position. To lower the chair, the vai've handle 43 is' manipuiated' to release the pressure Within the sleeve IT.
While but one form 'of the invention has been shown 'andde'scribed herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is n 1. A device of the character described 'conipris ing a wheeled chassis, a seat, a hydraulic jack mounted upon the chassis and supporting the seat, an adjustable back hinged to the seat,'a leg supporting frame, arm rests interconnecting the leg supporting frame and the back and independently adjustable foot rest members supported by the seat.
2. A device of the character described comprising a wheeled chassis, a seat, a hydraulic jack mounted upon the chassis and supporting the seat, an adjustable back hinged to the seat, a

A device of the character described comprising a wheeled chassis, a seat, ahy'draulic jack mounted upon the chassis and supporting the seat, an adjustable back hinged to the seat, a leg supporting frame, arm rests interconnecting the leg supporting frame and the back, independ ently adjustable foot rest members supported by the seat, a pump for the jack, a foot lever for operating the pump and a spring for returning the lever to normal upward position. A device of the character described "comprising a wheeled chassis, a seat, a hydraulic jack mounted upon the chassis and supporting the seat, an adjustable back hinged to theseat, a'leg supporting frame, arm rests interconnecting the" leg supporting frame and the back, independently adjustable foot rest members supported by the seat, a pump for the jack, a foot lever for operating the pump, a spring for returning the 4. lever to normal upward position, a valve for the pump and an elongated upwardly extending handle for operating the valve.
