Description

Feb. 13, 1951 v, NELSON 2,541,6@@
PHOTOGRAPH FRAME Filed Oct. 5, 1945 30778146 V/I// Inventor By M WW 3m Patented Feb. 13, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PHOTOGRAPH FRAME Eldridge V. Nelson, Washington, D. C. Application october 5, 1945, Serial No. 620,456
1 Claim. 1
My invention re ates to picture frames and has for an object to provide a frame formed partly by a series of grooved letters forming a part thereof.
Another object of this invention is to provide a plastic frame comprising a base and spaced uprights thereon, certain of which are letters grooved on one edge to support a picture.
A further object of my invention is to provide a photograph frame having a channelled upright on one side and an opposing upright having spaced channels.
The primary purpose of my invention is to provide an individual frame for a photograph, one or both photographs support ng members of which are formed of the initials of the particular person whose photograph is held thereby, the initials of the owner of the frame, or the insignia, symbol or other like device for designating an order, organization, society, etc., to which the person whose photograph is displayed therein, belongs.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational View of one application of m invent on.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof, and
Fgure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure l, the photograph being removed.
In the above drawings as well as in the specification to follow, the same characters of reference indicate the same parts throughout.
While one embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the above referred to drawings, it is to be understood that they are merely for the purpose of illustration and that various changes in construction may be resorted to in the course of manufacture in order that the 'invention may be utilized to the best advantage according to circumstances which may arise, without in any way departing from the spirit and intention of my device, which is to be limited only in accordance with the appended claim. And while I have stated the primary field of utility of my invention it remains obvious that it may be employed in any other capacity wherein it may be found applicable.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, my invention consists of a base II, upon which are fixed spaced apart uprights l2 and I3, the member l2 having a vertical channel M provided in its inner edge I5, and the member I3 consists of a series of letters l6, l7, I8 and I9, one upon the other and all integrally connected. The first letter 16 is fixedly mounted upon a block 20 provided with a, channel 2! on its inner edge 22. In the present instance the letters It to l8 have portions thereof such as 23, 24 and 25 provided with channels 25, all of which align with the channel 2!, whereby said channels of the member l3 and the member 12 are adapted to receive a photograph 2! which, of course, may have a facing 2? of plastic or glass, the said channels being of sufficient width for both photograph and facing.
While I show the letters A, R, M, Y, still it is to be understood that my invention does not comtemplate the use of these particular letters alone although they are of a character to indicate that the person whose photograph is displayed in the frame is a member of the army.
My invention primarily contemplates an individual frame in which the monogram or initial letters of the owner is used to provide the support it. However, of course any symbol, insignia, monogram or title may be used for the same purpose.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawigs. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
A photograph frame comprising a base, a vertically elongated standard extending upwardly from one end thereof, a block secured on the other end of the base and extending upwardly therefrom, a standard of irregular form secured to and extending upwardly from said block, vertically aligned channels in said block and in the standard of irregular form, a vertical channel in said elongated standard in coplanar relationship with the first-mentioned channels, and a photograph having a plastic protective facing with lateral marginal portions thereof inserted in all of said channels, the standard of irregular form being comprised of superposed interconnected letter forms, said letter forms being in horizontally staggered relationship so that the individual forms are distinctly separated and easily legible and said channels in the standard of irregular form being discontinuous.
