JACOB KITZ, OF NEUSGHLEUSSIG, NEAR LEIPSIO, GERMANY.
HANGING CIRCULJAR s ws.
srnorrroA rron forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,142, dated February 28, 1882.
Application filed December 18, 1880. (No model.) Patented in Germany October 8, 1880, in England November 30, 1880, in Franc December 15, 1880, and in Austria February 19, 1881. e
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB Krrz, of Neuschleussig, near Leipsic, in the Empire of Germany, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Circular Saws, (for which I made application for Letters Patent in Germany on or about the 6th day of October, 1880,) of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my invention consists in arranging or securing the saw-blade to a ring fitted over a hub securely attached to the axis, said ring being arranged to turn around suitable journals attached to the hub and secured in any desired diagonal position by suitable screws, whereby a groove of any desired width may be cut into the wood according to the diagonal position of the ring and saw-blade to the axis.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front view of a circular saw embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section, showing the saw-blade square to the axis; and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section, showing the saw-blade placed diagonal to the axis.
Similar letters represent similar parts in all the figures.
A is the axis, upon which a hub, B, is firmly attached. This hub is provided with two pro- 0 jecting pins or journals, 0 O, opposite each other.
D is a ring made in two parts, between which the saw-blade E is firmly secured, and
provided with suitable holes, into which the round the pins or journals. The two halves forming the ring D are secured together by suitable screws, 1).
On one side of the ring D a lug or projection, F, is provided at right angles to the center line of the journals 0, through which a suitable screw,G,passes, screwinginto the hub B, by means of which the diagonal position of the ring D and saw-blade E can be regulated.
J J are set-screws, arranged to act against the pins or journals 0 O, or against their surrounding brasses, to secure and fasten the ring and saw-blade in the desired position.
Whenever the saw-blade is secured square to the driving-axis, as shown in Fig. 3, the groove cut into the wood will be of a width corresponding with the thickness of the sawblade in the usual'manner.
When a wider groove should be desired, the
saw-blade is secured,-in the manner above described, diagonal to the axis A, as shown-in Fig. 4, when the width of the groove to be out into the wood will depend upon the diagonal position of the saw-blade in relation with the axis A.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a hub, B, firmly secured to adriving-shat't, A, and provided with projecting pins or journals 0 G, the ring D, with saw blade E, the screw G, and set-screws J J, constructed and arranged to operate in the manner and for the purpose substantially as described.
