Application November s, 1949,4se'ria1 no, mais; ,A I "setlists".` (01.259481) I This invention relates to an improved electric motor driven freezer of the type adapted `to be used inr a domestic mechanical refrigerator to freeze confections such asice cream,lthe primary object of the invention being to provide a more efficient and practical device of this kind composed of a minimum number of simple parts which canl be easily assembled and disassembled for cleaning or` repairs, and capableiofbeing made in an attractive and serviceable format relatively low cost. Y
`Other important objects and advantageous features ofthe inventionwill be apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein, merelyfor purposes of illustration, a specific embodiment ofthe invenl tion is set forth in details lIn the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view;
Figure 2 is a side elevation;
Figure 3 `is a right-hand end elevation of Fig- 4 I Figure i` is a vertical longitudinal section taken on the` line 4-4 of Figure 3'; 1
`Figure 5 is aplan view of the drum container removed from the frame or base 'and partly in section, and with a capcover removed and shown in dotted lines; I l i i I Figure 6 `is a transverse vertical section taken on theline 6 6 of Figure 2; Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts-throughout the several views, the illustrated device comprises a base or frame 'I `in the general form of a rectangular refrigerator tray hav-inga bottom 8, longitudinal side walls 9,'9, and an end wall IU, the upper edges of the side walls 9 and side walls I being on the same level and provided with a bead II. The tray 'I has another endiwall I2 which hasa semicircular cutout portion I3. At each side of the end wall I2 the side walls 9 have inwardly projecting flanges "I4" at their upper edges. w 1
A motor support plate or base|5 has ears I6 at the opposite ends to rest upon the flanges I4 and wing bolts II traverse the `ears and flanges to secure the motor base removably in place; The motor base I is concaved intermediate' its ends to fit the cutout portion I 3 andv provide a portion .I8 secured to and contoured nto conform to the under side of the casing of a small electric motor I9 having a squared shaft end 2D projecting from the motor casing tov/ard the opposite end of the tray and parallel to the bottom 8 thereof, as
am :e Een? i' ne @is i! estende from the motor I9 for connection to a suitable source of current preferably an outlet vwithin the refrigerator (not shown). The motor shaft `end 2B is axially aligned with a bearing hole`22 provided in the upper part of thetray endl wall IIl. The container drum, generally designated 23, comprisesa hollow cylinder 24 having an` end closure 25 having a centered recess 26 opening yat its inner side. The outside of the cylinder 24 adjacent the end closure 25 is threaded, as'indicated at 2l, to provide for removable attachrnentthere-V to of the cap 28 which has a centered pintle 29 to project through and turn in the bearing hole 22 in the tray end Wall I0 when the drum 23 is in place in the tray 1. When the drum is removed from the tray l, as on completion of a confection freezing operation, the cap 28 can be removed from the closed end of the drumandythreaded on the external threads 38 on the open opposite end 31 of the cylinder 24, the open endj 3'I'` being closed during operation of the device by the cover cap 32. i
The cover cap 32 has a central boss 33 having a squared socket 34 into which the squared motor shaft end 2B is fitted to support the adjacent end of the drum 23 and form a drive connection between the motor and the drum. The shaft end 28 is optionally permanently or removably fitted in the socket 34. The boss 33 has another socke 35 in the inner end.
An agitator or paddle assembly, generally designated 36, is not driven by the motorIS, but fits snugly and removably Within the drum cylinder 24. The paddle assembly 3E comprisesv a rectangular frame composed of longitudinal side members 3l, 31 connected at their ends by end members 38, 38, each having an outwardly projecting pin 39 centered thereon for engagingin the recess 25 in the drum end closure 25 and in the socket 35 in the cover cap boss 33, whereby the assembly is secured against endwise movement in the cylinder and the paddle frame and members 38are spaced inwardly from the ends of the cylinder 24. rThe paddle assembly 35 furv ther comprises a longitudinally paddle: bar 39 connected to and extending between theV midpoints of the end members 38. Extending from the bar 39 in Vthe plane of the end `members38 are spaced pairs of diametrically -opposedshort paddleflngers 40,49 and apair of intermediate longer paddle ngers 4I','4I.` VThe' fluid from which the desired confection is frozen beats against the paddle assembly 36 as the drum 23 is rotated, whereby the fluid is adequately agiamigas ator iceicube freezing; tray, can be readilyo sub.-
