This invention relates to jewelry boxes.

An object of this invention is to provide a jewelry box embodying holder or base of horseshoe shape, a box adapted to receive one or more articles of jewelry, such as rings or the like, and correlated means carried by the holder and box for removably securing the box in the holder.

Another object of this" invention is to provide a jewelry box embodying a holder or base and a receptacle wherein the holder embodies an element of superstition and at the same time provides a practical means for supporting the receptacle.

With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawing and specifications, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral Ill designates generally a holder or base for a jewelry box which is constructed of horseshoe shape. The holder IU embodies a substantially semi-circular bight II with forwardly converging legs I2. The holder I [I includes a foot I3 at the forward end of the bight I I, and a pair of supporting feet I4 at the ends` of the legs I2.

A box or receptacle generally designated as I 5 is adapted to be removable mounted in the holder or base I and comprises a bottom wall I6 with a circular side wall I'I of downwardly tapering construction. The holder Ill is formed with a tapering inner side I8 so that the receptacle or box I may be wedged tightly into the inner side of the holder II).

The holder II! is formed with a substantially semi-circular groove or channel I9 and the side wall I'I of' the box or receptacle I5 is formed with a plurality of outwardly struck detents adapted to be snapped into the groove I9. The receptacle or box I5 includes a flanged cover or closure 2l which is hingedly secured as at 22 to the side wall I'I.

A filler generally designated as 23 is disposed within the receptacle or box I5 and includes a padding 24 which is enclosed in the fabric cover 25. The filler 23 is formed with a slot 2S extending downwardly and forwardly from the upper side thereof so that a ring 2l may be removably disposed in the slot 26.

The holder or base Il] may be formed of any suitable material such as metal,` plastic or the like and where formed of metal may be suitably plated to provide an attractive base. The receptacle I5 may be formed out of metal or other suitable material and where formed out of metal may be plated in the same manner as the holder or base Ill.

With a combined holder and box or receptacle as hereinbefore described, the receptacle may be detachably secured within the holder, being not only wedged but locked into the holder so as to firmly hold the receptacle or box in the holder or base.

In Figure 4 there is disclosed a modified form of jewelry box wherein the base or horseshoe Illa is formed with spaced detents 2l! which engage in an annular groove 29 formed in the box I-ja. In other respects the structure shown in Figure 4 is similar to the structure shown in Figures 1 to 3.

I do not mean to conline myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A jewelry box comprising a base of substantially U-shape in plan having a bight slightly greater than a semi-circle and having the opposite legs thereof in forwardly convergent relation, the inner side of said bight being inclined inwardly and downwardly, a circular box formed with a tapered side wall wedgingly engaging within said bight, and interengagingmeans on said side wall and said inner side of said bight for retaining said box in said base against vertical displacement, said convergent legs serving to preclude horizontal displacement thereof.

2. A jewelry box comprising a base of substantially Ushape in plan having a bight slightly greater than a semi-circle and having the opposite legs thereof in forwardly convergent relation, the inner side of said bight being inclined, a circular box formed with a tapered side wall wedgingly engaging within said bight, the inner side of said bight having a horizontal groove and detents carried by said box engaging in said groove to lock said box against vertical movement relative to said base, said convergent legs and said bight serving to preclude horizontal displacement thereof.
