Description

DUAL CONTAINER Filed Aug. 17, 1946 INVENTOR- Joaspa CARL Thomson Patented Feb. 6, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DUAL CONTAINER Joseph Carl Thompson, New York, N. Y. Application August It, 1946, Serial No. 691,189
The present invention relates to a dual container and refers more particularly to a container comprising a. single chamber and means for dividing said chamber into a multiplicity of chainbers sufficiently tight to provide means for separate storage and dispensing of different finely divided solids such as salt, pepper, spices and the like.
An object of the present invention is to provide a salt and pepper shaker or the like of pleasing appearance and novel and useful shape.
A further object is to provide an article of the class described which shall combine the convenience and beauty of shape usually associated with single containers, with the ability to store and dispense separately a multiplicity of different substances.
Another object is to provide such a, container wherein the dividing or compartmentizing means is removable from the container body so that the latter may be cleaned as easily as a single container, which it in fact is after the removal of the compartmentizing means.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. l is a side elevation of a container embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the container body alone.
Fig. l is a perspective view of the closure and compartmentizing member.
Fig. 5 is a vertical section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the container ill comprises the containe body H which is generally pear shaped and may have any interior shape produced by symmetrical generation about an axis. Body H has a base l2, preferably integral therewith, the shape of which is immaterial to the invention. Body H is open at the top and is formed with a single chamber l3 therein. A substantially, cylindrical recess I4 is axially located at the bottom of chamber i3. The top rim of body II is provided with external screw threads I5.
The closure member I6 comprises a cap portion I! provided with internal screw threads I8 adapted to engage threads l5 to close chamber 3 Claims. (Cl. 222-1424) i3. Closure member I 6 further comprises a pintle or axial shaft [9 extending perpendicularly from cap portion I? and adapted to seat in recess I 4 when cap ll is screwed home on body I I.
Cap ii is formed with openings 23 and 2 5 on opposite sides of shaft i9 and walls 20, openings 23 and 24 thereby being adapted to open into the smaller chambers 2| and 22 respectively. Openings 23 and 24 are conveniently provided with threaded collars 25 and 2t and. foraminated caps 2i and 28 engaging the same to provide caps for the respective chambers 2| and 22 by which they may be filled and emptied as desired.
As mentioned previously, by removing closure member I6, first having removed the contents of chambers 2| and 22 separately, the said chambers cease to exist and chamber l3 may be easily and efficiently cleaned.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A salt and pepper shaker comprising a hollow body symmetrical about a center axis, a supporting base for said body having a vertical axial cylindrical socket, said body having, at its top, an upwardly extending outwardly threaded neck, and a structure for closing and partitioning said body including a dome-shaped cap having an internally threaded flange screwed on said threaded neck, a vertical central cylindrical rod disposed at its bottom in said socket, and integral diametral wings extending laterally from said rod and being integral at the top edges with said cap, said wings having, together, the configuration of the interior of said body and cap when said cap is screwed tightly on said body, ,said cap having a threaded outwardly extending hollow neck on opposite sides of said wings, and a perforated cap screwed on each of said hollow necks.
2. A salt and pepper shaker comprising a pearshaped hollow body, a supporting base for said body having a vertical axial cylindrical socket, said body having, at its top, an upwardly extending outwardly threaded neck, and a structure for closing and partitioning said body including a dome-shaped cap having an internally threaded flange screwed on said threaded neck, a vertical central cylindrical rod disposed at its bottom in said socket, and integral diametral wings extending laterally from said rod and being integral at the top edges with said cap, said wings having, together, the configuration of the interior of said body and cap when saidcap is screwed tightly on said body, said cap having a threaded outwardly extending hollow neck on opposite sides of said wings, and a perforated cap screwed on each of said hollow necks.
3. A salt and pepper shaker comprising a hollow body having an open top end and formed in the bottom of the inside thereof with a concentrio socket, a dome-shaped cap removably mounted in position over the top of said hollow body, a vertical rod having its top end attached to said cap and extended concentrically downward in said body, said rod having its lower end rotative1y received in said socket, integral diametral wings extending laterally in opposite directions from said rod and having a combined shape corresponding to the interior cross-sectional shape of said body with said cap in position for dividing the interior of said body into separate compartments for different powdered condiments, and means on said cap on opposite sides of said wings so that said condiments can be separately discharged from said compartments.
