1 Claim.
This invention relates to combination stands for dining rooms tables and the like Where it is desired to provide a plurality of condiments in combination with salt and pepper shakers and toothpicks, and in particular the invention relates to a tray having a plurality of receptacle holding compartments therein rotatably mounted on a tubular post on a base having openings in the sides for toothpicks and the like and having a handle removably secured in the upper end of the post that locks the tray on the post.
The purpose of this invention is to provide an improved seasoning stand having a rotatable tray to facilitate reaching diiierent condiments thereon in which additional article holding compartments or pockzts are provided in the base.
Various devices have been provided for holding salt and pepper casters and other condiment containers on a table so that they may readily be reached to eliminate passing the seasoning substances around the $211317, but these devices are objectionable because the average table is comparatively small and when the devices are made sufficiently large to accommodate all seasonings required they cover too large an area. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a stand for seasonings and the like having a receptacle holding tray rotatably mounted on a base in which additional article holding openings are provided in the base.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for constructing a stand having a rotatable tray whereby a comparatively large number of condiments and the like may be carried thereby.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for providing a condiment holding stand .so that the parts may readily be separated for cleaning.
A further object of the invention is to provide :a unique condiment stand for dining room tables :and the like having a rotatable tray which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the new and 'useful combination, construction, and arrange- :ment of parts as hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the claim appended hereto and disclosed in the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 is a View showing a side elevation of the stand with part of a condiment container of Figure 1 with part broken away and shown in section showing a toothpick holding pocket in the base.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the rotatable tray with the other parts of the stand omitted.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the condiment stand of this invention includes a base ill having a centrally disposed post H extending upward therefrom, a rotatable tray i2, and a handle i3 removably mounted in the upper end of the post.
The base It} may be formed as shown with a centrally disposed opening M in which the post ii is -positioned and pockets i5 extend inward and slope downwardly from the peripheral surface, as shown in Figure 2, so that toothpicks, as indicated by the numeral IE, may be held therein.
A washer I7 is positioned around the lower end of the post and the tray I2 is freely mounted on the washer with a centrally disposed opening i8 therein positioned over the post, and with containers !9 freely held in openings 2i! therein the tray may readily be rotated so that the different containers may be reached from one side without moving the stand from one position toanother. The tray I2 is illustrated as being hollow with the openings 20 formed in an upper wall 2! thereof, although it will be understood that the tray may be made of wood, metal, plastic or any suitable material and the openings or recesses may be formed therein in any manher.
The handle 13 is formed with a wire loop having downwardly extending ends 22 and 23 with projections 24 and 25 on the lower ends, and in inserting the handle in the upper end of the post the ends are placed in openings 2% and 2'! in a cap 28 that is threaded on the upper end of the post and the projections 2i and 25 are snapped into openings 29 and 39 in the sides of the post, as shown in Figure 2. With the parts arranged in this manner the tray i2 is secured on the post by the handle and cap 28, and to remove the tray it is first necessary to remove the handle and cap.
The base and also the post and handle may also be made of any suitable material, and any suitable number of openings or recesses may be provided in the tray and base.
With the tray filled with containers holding condiments, such as catchup, other meat sauces, salt and pepper and the like, the stand may be placed in a convenient position on a table or the like and by turning the tray 82 the ferent products will be 'within easy reach of everyone at th table.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a stand for condiments and the like, the combination which comprises a flat cylindrical base having a centrally positioned vertically disposed opening therein and having radially disposed openings sloping downwardly and inwardly from the peripheral surface for holding toothpicks and the like with the ends of the toothpicks ergtended, a tubular post having a handle on the upper end mounted in the vertically disposed opening of the base, a substantially hollow tray including spaced upper and lower horizontally disposed walls with receptacle receiving openings in the upper wall, with a peripheral web connecting the outer edges of the walls, and With a tube connecting the said walls at the center of the tray providing a bearing for journaling the tray on the post, and a spacing washer positioned on the post between the said tray and base.
