This invention relates to a shoulder supported light clamp, particularly useful to mechanics, and the like, so that light can be directed to the desired point while leaving the hands of the mechanic, and the like, free.
An object of my invention is to provide a novel shoulder support to which the light clamp or bracket is attached, and the light being positioned on the chest of the wearer.
Another object Of my invention is to provide a novel shoulder supported light clamp of the character stated, in which the light is movable on the shoulder bracket so that the light can be moved, as desired, to direct the light to a particular point.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a novel shoulder supported light clamp, which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which can be quickly and easily mounted on the shoulder of a user.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my novel shoulder supported light clamp.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the same taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral I indicates a metal or plastic strap which extends over the shoulder of the wearer, the front portion thereof resting on the chest, and the rear portion resting against the back of the wearer. The strap I is so shaped that it will rest on the shoulder of the wearer and there is a slight tension in the material of the strap so that the front and rear portions thereof will press against the chest and back of the wearer. The strap I is positioned by hooking the same over the shoulder and pushing downwardly to seat the strap, which remains in position largely due to gravity. A rubber or plastic lining 2 may be provided on the strap I so as to protect the clothing of the wearer and also to more effectively hold the strap in position.
The lower front portion of the strap I is shaped or formed as a plate 3, that is, it is somewhat enlarged. A lug or angle 4 is fixedly secured to the face of the plate 3 and this lug projects forwardly from the face of the plate. A light bracket or clamp 5 consists of a flat plate 6 from the rear of which a lug or angle I projects. A bolt 8 extends through the lugs 4 and I and the lugs I can be tilted in a vertical plane relative to the lug 4, thus tilting the clamp 5 in a vertical plane, as may be desired. A spring clip 9 is pivotally attached to the outer face of the plate 6 by the screw Ill. The clip 9 can rotate around the screw I0, thus adjusting the light socket II, as may be desired by the user. A socket II clips into the clip 9 in the usual and well known manner.
In use, the strap I is slipped on to the shoulder, which places the light socket II in front of the wearer and on his chest. Both hands are entirely free for work, and the light II can be tilted either vertically, or can be rotated, as may be necessary to direct the light to the point desired.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A shoulder supported light clamp comprising a strap shaped as an inverted U and fitting over the shoulder, a lug projecting from said strap, a light bracket including a plate, a second lug projecting from said plate, a bolt extending through said lugs whereby pivotal movement is permitted between said lugs, and a spring clip mounted on said plate, said spring clip receiving a light socket.
2. A shoulder supported light clamp comprising a strap shaped as an inverted U and fitting over the shoulder, a lug projecting from said strap, a light bracket including a plate, a second lug projecting from said plate, a bolt extending through said lugs whereby pivotal movement is permitted between said lugs, and a spring clip mounted on said plate, said spring clip receiving a light socket, and means pivotally securing said spring clip to said plate.
