Description

W. J. L. FLICK FLAG HOLDER Dec. 12, 1950 INVENTOR. M515 7M Filed Oct. 18, 1947 Patented Dec. 12, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FLAG HOLDER Walter J. L. Flick, Tarentum, Pa.
Application October 18, 1947, Serial No. 780,737
1 Claim.
ence characters designate like parts, and in Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a motor vehicle having a funeral flag mounted thereon, embodying the principles of this invention;
Fig. 2 a view in perspective of a flag holder;
Fig. 3 a side elevational view of a portion of a car door and flag holder with a mounting bracket in cross section; and
Fig. 4 a front elevational view of the bracket.
In the drawing numeral l designates a pole or rod on which a flag is mounted, as shown in Fig. l, and secured against sliding by a car door or otherwise in an opening 2 provided at the up per end thereof.
The rod I is mounted in the face 3 of a mounting bracket which, as shown in Fig. 3, is accomplished by fastening the end of the bent rod as by peening or riveting the end to form a head 4. The bracket 3 is an L-shaped member having a. short leg 5 that overlaps the flange 6 of a car door generally designated by the numeral 1. Mounted within the bracket 3 is a liner of yielding material such as felt or rubber *8 which is provided with an L-shaped face 9 which is secured thereto by cementing, glueing or other fastening means so that when the bracket 3 is slipped over the flange 6 it will yieldingly engage the flange and not drop off when the door is opened. However, as the door closes the short 2 leg 5 of the bracket 3 will be engaged between the flange 6 and the door jamb of the car and held against displacement until the door is again opened and the flag holder removed.
Flag holders of the above described construction are especially useful on funeral cars as they are simply inserted on the door flange and require no fastening means such as screws or clamping devices, as they are securely held in position once the door is closed.
Although one embodiment of the invention has been herein illustrated and described, it will be evident to those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made in the details of construction without departing from the principles herein set forth.
I claim:
A flag holder for funeral cars comprising a flag pole secured to a substantially L-shaped bracket having one leg adapted for engagement with one face of the flange of a car door, a second L-shaped member yieldingly mounted in said L-shaped bracket having one leg adapted for engagement with the other face of the car door flange, whereby upon closing of the door the flag holder bracket will be securely clamped between the door and the door jamb.
WALTER J. L. FLICK.
