ADJUSTABLE MEonANisM- PulLFianoivsi-"Gallleret, Ile Havre; France Applicatonfbvember 14, 19457, Serial :Noa 9785;,923-4- In France July 10, 1947 cal with respect to the central axis, in which case.
the tableconstitutes a sideboard or.a rectangular dinner-table' for'at least' two' persons, and: a second position in which the said board, turned by o1' rotated in a horizontal plane in an angle of 90, is itted between the two xed panels, constituting a cross-shaped dinner table for at least four persons.
Furthermore, the above mentioned pivotable board is advantageously provided, at its underside, with two hinged aps which are adapted to occupy two positions: a horizontal position in which they are folded under the board and superimposed to or on the aforesaid xed panels, and a Vertical position in which they lean upon the table frame, along the inner edges of the fixed panels, the said board being raised with respect to the said panels, the whole forming in this position an apartment bar.
Other features of the invention will appear in the following specification and in the accompanying drawings which represent, by way of example, an embodiment of the transformable table according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the table in its rst lform, the pivotable board occupying its first position.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the table in its second form.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the latter.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the table set so as to for-m an apartment bar.
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of the table frame.
In the embodiment shown on the drawings, the frame of the table comprises a tubular frame formed by four uprights I connected at their lower ends to form a base by crossed braces 2 the ends of which are provided with rollers or casters 3. Higher up, the uprights are connected by parallel side or cross bars 4 which are, in turn,
zsclsims. (o1. 'cria-str 2' connected intermediatel'y'bya crossbrace 5'. i uprigiits' I are" bent uoriz'critaiwoutwardly at.' la' and connected two bytwo` or in pairs at? their outer ends, by an upper cross bar Ib, the' p'arts a and 'Itb' supportin'gybn each sidevof' the' table, a hired panelt,"

To the underside of this board Il are hingedly connected at I2, I2, two flaps I3 which can be maintained flat against said board, by means of hooks Ili mounted in any convenient manner.
in its first position, the board I I, with the underlying naps I3, covers the xed panels 5 and is locked against rotation by the hooks I4 which are tilted downwards so as to engage the sides, side edges or ends of the iixed panels 9 (Fig. 1). Viewed from above, as shown on Fig. 2, the table has then the rectangular shape of the board II and may be used as a sideboard, or as a dinnertable for at least two persons placed at the transverse sides of the panels 6 and board I I.
In order to pass to the second position, the hooks lil are lifted so as to hold the naps I3 against the board II, and the latter is turned about the vertical shaft I9, so that it is able to fit between the panels 6 and be supported in the plane thereof, by resting on the inner portions of the horizontal parts Ia of the uprights I (Fig. 3). In this position, the table has, in plan view, the shape of a cross (Fig. 4) and may be used by four persons, in the same manner as would be a larger table with a square board the sides of which would be equal to the length of the board II.
Finally, the board I I being reset or raised above the panels S, the hooks I4 may be disengaged So as to allow the flaps I3 to tilt downwardly, and to come to rest by or at their lower edges upon the inner portions of the parts Ic, preferably by means of notches ISa formed in the lower edges of the aps I3. Angle pieces I5 secured to the bottom of board II spaced inwardly from and parallel to hinges I2, a distance substantially equal to the thickness of aps I3 to brace and ensure the vertical position of the flaps I3, in which the lower edges of the latter are placed against the inner edges of the panels 6 (Fig. 5). The aforesaid notches lock the whole raised structure formed by the board I I and the depending naps I3 against rotation.
In this position, the board II is elevated, and the Whole device forms a kind of apartment bar. The panels 6 form shelves for the glasses, while the bottles placed on the elevated board II are immediately at hand for the person attending to the bar. The ice bucket and other implements of the barman can also be placed conveniently.
Advantageously, the notches I3a in the edges of the flaps I3 will be large enough to make it easy to get hold of the bo-ard II in order to turn the same, when the flaps I3 are folded at under the board as seen in Figure 1.
It will be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has been described and shown, and that it covers also any modifications made therein without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A transformable table comprising `a frame, a vertical tube mounted centrally in said frame, a vertical shaft rotatably and slidably mounted in said vertical tube, a horizontal rectangular board mounted on the upper end of said vertical shaft, and two xed horizontal panels mounted on said frame and on opposite sides of said vertical tube for selectively supporting said board, said panels being spaced the width of said rectangular board for selectively receiving said board therebetween, said board may rest upon said panels or be turned through an angle of 90 on said vertical shaft and lowered, with said vertical shaft sliding in said vertical tube, to fit between said panels in the same horizontal plane.
2. A transformable table comprising a frame, a vertical tube mounted centrally in said frame, a vertical shaft rotatably and slidably mounted in said vertical tube, a horizontal rectangular board mounted on the upper end of said vertical shaft, two fixed horizontal panels mounted on said frame, and on opposite sides of said vertical tube for selectively supporting said board, said panels being spaced the width of said rectangular board for selectively receiving said board therebetween and twoaps hinged to the underside of said board and to be folded flat against the underside of said board so as torest with said board on said panels, and when said board is raised to an elevated position with said vertical shaft sliding in said vertical tube, said flaps to be tilted to a vertical position in which they rest by their lower edges upon said frame and support said board in its` elevated position.
