G. BERNHART.
GARDING MACHINE.
INVENTOR V Patented Feb. 7,1882.
Fries. I
ATENT GEORGE BERNHART, OF AMANA, IOWA.
CARDlNGyMACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,260, dated February 7, 1882. Application filed April 14, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE BERNHART, of Amana, in the county of Iowa and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gaming-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as y are mixed with the new wool. With these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be more fully explained, and pointed out in the claims.
Inthe accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the finisher and second breaker-card and theiradjunctive parts with my improvement attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a view of the shaft and rolls that drive the conveyer. Fig. 3 is a view of the fifth worker of the second breaker-card. Fig. 4 is an end View of one of the hangers, 01 and Fig. 5 is a view of the shaft supporting the rear end of the conveyer-belts.
A represents the main cylinder of the finishingcard, which, together with the second breaker-card, is furnished with the usual feedrolls, A, one licker-in, A, one tumbler, A four workers, A, and four strippers, A one fancy, A, while the finisher-card A is provided with two ring-doffers, B B, and a rub with two sets of rub-rolls, O O, and the second breaker with only one doffer, J.
D is a shaft journaled in the bearings D, mounted on arches, which support the rubrolls of finisher'card, said shaft having two grooved-faced rollers, ac, secured thereto near each end, around which the endless conveyers pass. This shaft is also provided with a pulley, b, on one end thereof, around which a driving-belt, 0, passes, the latter extending down and around the driving-pulley E, the latter being secured to a shaft having a cog-wheel thereon, which meshes with a corresponding wooden hangers cl, attached to the ceiling.'-
These hangers d are made of wood, and are provided with extra slots, into which the rollers are inserted when the conveyor-belts become loose. These hangers have been found to answer the best purpose, because they require no lubrication, and flying wool does not affect them. The conveyers F, after passing upward from the finisher-card, run in a horizontal direction for some distance, and are then deflected downward, so as to deposit the fillets of waste or end rovin gs onto the last stripper of second breaker, or the one nearest the fancy. This stripper, which is a part of the second breaker, strips its worker, together with the conveyer-belts, in the same manner that every stripper strips its worker. The rear extremities of the conveyors immediately over the second breaker-card are supported on smoothfaced rollers G, said rollers being journaled on shaft H, which in turn has its bearing in adjustable standards L, secured to the arches of the second breaker-card. This shaft H is revolved by the endless conveyers, and is provided with a cam, g, at one side thereof, adapted to work in the bracket 1, secured to the ad justable standard L, the said bracket being provided with a grooved face in which the cam g works, and by which a lateral motion is imparted thereto which distributes the fibers of the waste rovings evenly. These standards L are provided with slots, by which they are pivotally secured to the arches of the second breaker, and adjusted so that the teeth of the conveyer-belts come close to the stripper, and
enable the stripper to take the wool quite clean from off the con veyer-belts.
I is the last stripper, or the one nearest the fancy, situated below the ends of the convey ers, and adapted to take the end rovin gs therefrom and deliver them to the second breakercard at about the same speed they are delivered from the finisher-card, where they are worker situated below said stripper, said worker having a girdle of card-clothing removed from each end, which allows the rovin gs to pass uninterrupted to the doffer, where it is mixed with the new wool, substantially as set forth.
5. In a waste-roving conveyor for cardingmachines, the combinatiomwith a finisher-card and second breaker-card, of an endless conveyer or oonveyers provided with card-clothing on one face and supported above the said finisher and second breaker cards, adjustable hangers, rub-roll gearing of the finisher-card, and suitable mechanism by which the desired motion is imparted to said conveyer, substantially as set forth.
6. In a waste-roving conveyer for cardingmachines, the combination, with a finisher and second breaker card, the endless conveyer, removable end shafts. therefor, and intermediate an annularnaked space around each end of the 0 fifth worker, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of March, 1881.
- GEORGE BERNHARI. In presence of-- CHAS. MOORSHEL, LEONHARD GRAF.
