ROBERT NEILL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,9 6], dated January 31, 1882.
Application filed April 1, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT NEILL, of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Lard-Press, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a press that can be easily adjusted to the work required, and to so combine the different parts of the press that the minimum amount of room is taken up with the press.
Referring to the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 show the press as under operation.
A is a lever, with a sliding weight, B, attached. The lever has a pawl, C, at one end, catching into the teeth of the ratchet-wheel D. From the same spindle to which the lever and ratchet-wheel D are fitted are also secured two drums, E E, round which the ropes of the pulley-blocks F F coil when the lever A, with the weight 13, descends.
H is the cross-head, to which the upper pul- Icy-blocks are attached, the lower blocks being firmly secured to the floor.
J J are the bags containing the lard or substance to be pressed.
K is the box, into which the oil runs as it is (No model.)
' pressed or squeezed from the substance in the bags J J.
I I are thin plates of iron dividing the different rows of bags J J from one another.
Having thus described in detail the ditt'erent parts of thepress, the principle and action are as follows: When the lever A, with the weight B, is raised up, the pawl C engages with the teeth of ratchet-wheel D, so that on the descent of the lever the weight B, through the lever and pawl C, causes the rope of the pulleyblocks F F to wind round the drums E E, thus bringing down gradually the beam or crosshead H. Also the plates I I are brought closer together, and the liquid or oil in the bags J J is pressed or squeezed out from the substance in the bags and runs into the box K at bottom of the press.
Having thus described my invention, what V I claim as new and original, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of-the adjustable weighted lever A, pawl C, ratchet-wheel D, drums E, pulley-blocks F, and ropes, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose speeified. Y
