UNITED STATES PATENT @EEEQE.
CHARLES SGHWAIBOLD, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CURTAIN-CORD TIGHTENER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 252,807, dated January 24, 1882.
Application filed July 23, 1881.
which receives the endless cui tain-cord. When this old device is applied to use the axis of the thumb button is broughtinto a difl'erentplane from that of the curtain-roller, and hence it is necessary to twist the cord in placing it on the button, which is objectionable, because the cord is thus rendered liable to slip off of its pulley on the curtain-roller, and also because the cord is thereby retarded in its motion.
The object of my invention is to overcome these objections; and to this end it consistsin arranging on the locking-slide a pulley whose axis is substantially at a right angle to that of the thumb-button, so that it is brought parallel to the curtain-roller.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a front view including the curtain-roller. Fig. 2 is a side view of the ti tener.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
Theletter A designates the locking-slide; B, its thumb-button; O, the pulley, and D the slotted guide-bracket.
(No model.)
The locking-slide Amoves in and engages the slot of the bracket D in a well-known manner, and the thumb -button B projects outwardly therefrom, while the pulley G is on the side thereof, so that the axes of the button and the pulley are at right angles to each other.
When the tightencr is put up the pulley 0 should be brought in a vertical plane with the pulley O of the curtain-roller, and if the curtain-cord e is passed from the curtain-roller around the pulley G, the cord is left straight or untwisted, and can be moved in either direction without danger of its slipping off from the roller or being retarded in its motion.
I am aware that it is old to construct a cordtightener with a pulley having its axis parallel to that of the shade-roller, and I make no claim to such feature, broadly.
What I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, substantially as hereiubefore set forth, of the locking-slide, constructed with the thumb-button and the pulley, having their axes substantially at right angles to each other, and the slotted guide bracket, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GHARLES SUHWAIB OLD.
