BAG HOLDER..

PERRY ALLEN, OF FLINI, MICHIGAN.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,640, dated January 24, 1882.
Application filed August 6, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom 'it may coaccra:
Be it known thatLPERRY ALLEN, of Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Combined Truck and Bag-Holder, of which the` following is a specification.
rIhe nature of my invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the c onstruction of a device for holding bags to yhe filled with grain, in combination with a truck, and the invention consists in the peculiar coustruction of parts and their various combinations, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is aperspective view ot' my coinbined truck and bag-holder as it appears when in use as the latter. Fig. 2 is a veitical central section of the upper portion of the standard, showing the adjustability of the bag-holding hopper. t
In the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specification,Arepresents the foot of the device, the two parts thereof heing held together by a cross-girt, B, which sustains the foot oi' the shaft C. Jonrnaled between the rear ends of the feet A arethetruckwheels D, the lower periphery of which, resting upon the ground, allows theshaftC to stand a little inclined, while the wheels D and the feet actjointly to hold the shaft in nearly vertical position when the device is employed as' a bag-holder. The lower end of the shaft G, resting upon the base B, rests againstacross girt, D. A
E is a cradle, attached to the shaft as shown, designed to prevent the barrel frothv rolling when the device is used asa truck for rolling barrels. Upon the side of theshaft is secured a ratchet, F, which engages with tlie lever G, pivotally secured to the opposite edge ot' the shaft, and to this lever is secured a cord, H, which passes through a hole, a, to the rear of the shaft, thence forward in rear of said shaft, over a pulley, I, journaled near the top of said shaft, thence down in at the front thereof, where its end is secured to the eyebolt J, which secures the hopper K to the slide L, (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1,) and which has a vertical motion in the slot M, cut through the shaft.
N are handles secured to the upper end of 5o the shaft. Near the lower edges, at the front and rear `of the hopper, are, secured the upwardly-curvedpoints or pins b.
In practice the mouth of the bag incloses the mouth ot' the hopper, which has a daring one 55 upon all sides, and is secured thereto by being engaged with the hooks b, the lower end of the bag resting upon the door. By means ot' the lever G the hopper is raised or lowered to suit different lengths of bags and allow the 6o lower end thereofto rest upon the floor. The bagis then filled with grain through the hopper, when by means of the aforesaid lever the hopper is lowered to enable the 4bag to be disengaged from the pins, and then by means of the same lever the hopper is raised sufficiently to be out of the way to enable the operator to vtie the bag. The shaft G is then thrown to the rear, bringing the wheels Dinto operation asa truck, the girt B engaging the 7o bag and holding itin place while being tracked awav.
To enable the truck to be used for ordinary purposes-such as rolling barrels or other articlesthe eyebolt J is withdrawn, the hopper may then be removed from slide L, and the truck used for ordinary purposes.
By this construction and arrangement I provide a very efficient, economical, and useful' 4tool for farmers and millers7 use. 8o
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a bag-holder, the hopper K and slide L, in combination with the cord H, pulley I, lever G, ratchet F, and the shaft G, having a slot to receive the slide L, substantiallyT as specified.
2. In a combined bagholder and truck, and in combination with the shaft G thereof, the slide L, having an inclined front face and provided with grooves in its sides, the hopper K, 9o having tongues to t in the grooves in the slide, and the pin J for securing the hopp'er' and slide together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
