(Cl. L1li-105) 8 Claims. 1
The invention relates to toys and refers more particularly to toys simulating animals.
The invention has for one oi its objects to provide a toy having jawand leg members which are movable at the same time.
The invention has for another object to provide a toy having a movable tongue member which is actuable by a cam on a leg member andis adapted to actuate a jaw member.
The invention has for further objects to provide a to-y which is so -constructed that the jaw and leg members `are moved during the advance of the toy over flooring and the like; to provide a toy in which the movable jaw member makes a clacking sound when closing; and to provide a toy which is pleasing in appearance.
With these and other objects in View, the invention resides in the novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements oiA parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a toy embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of a portion thereof.
The toy illustrated in the present instance simulates an alligator and comprises the body I. the tail 2 which forms an extension at one end of the body, and the lower jaw member 3 which forms an extension at the other end of the body. The toy also comprises the upper jaw member l which is located above the lower jaw member and is pivoted to the body. The pivotal connection is formed by suitable means such as the U-shaped strap 5 xedly secured by the nails 6 to the lower face of the rear end portion of the upper jaw member and pivotally secured by the nails 'l extending into the sides of the body. The toy also comprises the front and rear leg members 8 and 9, respectively, each of which has a pair of legs movable in unison. The front and rear leg members are pivoted to the body I by the nails I0 and II, respectively, which extend through the middles of the leg members and intothe longitudinal median portion of the body.
The upper jaw member is adapted to be swung about the pivots 'I through a vertical path at the same time that the front and rear leg members are swung about the pivots l0 and II through a horizontal path. The swinging of the upper jaw member is accomplished by means of the tongue member I2 which extends within the aperture I3 in the lower jaw member 3 and 2 which is pivoted near its rear end to the lower jaw member by suitable means such as the nail I4. The tongue member is adapted to be swung about its pivot to engage the rupper surface of its front end portion with the lower surface of the upper jaw member to raise the same, the
tongue member having at its rear end the` rounded face I5 which is engageable with the cam I6 formed upon the front `face of the leg member 8. The cam I6 being below the pivot I4 rides over the lower portion of the rounded facel` so that as the leg member is swung hori zontally about its pivot the cam causes the por.- tion of thetongue member forwardly of the pivot to swing yupwardly and allows it to .swing downwardly.
The leg members 8 and 9 are swung horizontally about their pivots by means of the twisted linksY II and I8, respectively, and the rollers I9 and-20 which are connected respectively to the links II and` I8. mounted upon a shaft 2| which isfjournaled in the block 22 xedly secured to the Vlower side of the body I by suitable means such as the. nails 23. The blocki is located between the rollers and the links are connected eccentri-cally to the rollers and are also connected to the leg members.
The construction is such that the rollers serve to support the toy while it is being drawn over flooring and the like and also rotate during the advance of the toy, thereby horizontally swinging the front and rear leg members through the connecting links and also vertically swinging the upper jaw member through the vertically swingable tongue member actuated by the front leg member. The operation is such that while the toy is being drawn over the flooring the movement of the upper jaw member is suiciently rapid so that it produces a clacking sound upon 'being allowed to lower against the lower jaw member.

A toy simulating an animal comprising a body, an apertured lower jaw member forming an extension of said body, an upper jaw member pivoted to said body and engageable with said lower jaw member, a tongue member extending within the aperture of said lower jaw member and engageable with said upper jaw member, a leg member pivoted to said body and comprising front legs movable as a unit and a cam engaging said tongue member, a roller serving to support said body, and a link connected to said leg member and also to said roller for actuating said leg member upon rotation of said roller.
5. A toy simulating an animal comprising a body, a jaw member movable transversely of said body, leg members movable generally parallelto said body, means or'movingV said jaw member by means of one of said leg members, a pair-of rollers serving to support said body, and links eocentrioally connected to said rollers and also conneoted to said leg members. Y
5. A toy simulating an animal comprising a body, jaw and leg members movable transversely of each other, said leg member being operatively connected to said jaw member to move the same r- 4 upon movement of said leg member, and means for moving said leg member.
7. A toy simulating an animal comprising a body, a movable jaw member, a tongue member for moving said jaw member, a leg member movable in a direction transverse to that of said jaw and tongue members and operatively connected to said tongue member to move the same, and a roller operatively connected to said leg member for moving the same.
`8.
