l This invention relates to a device for holding sacks such as are ordinarily used as containers for grains, nuts, or other materials while `the sacks are being filled from storage bins or chutes, and an object of my invention is the provision of a sack holder which will fully extend the opening of the sack over the Vdischarge opening of the bin or chute in accordance with the size of the sack while the sack is being lled. Y
Another object of the invention is the provision of a valve in combination with the sack holding elements which will open the discharge opening of the pin or chute when the "top .of the `sack is distended below said discharge `opening by theV sack holding elements and close* said discharge opening when the sack holding elements are released from the sack after it islle'd.
` A particular advantage of the presentinven tion resides in the fact that the sack is quickly attached tothe sack holding elements and uponVV moving the sack holding elements to distend the top of the sack below the discharge opening of the bin or chute, the valve is simultaneously opened to ll the sack. When the sack is being released from the sack holding elements after it is filled the valve is automatically closed until the next sack is in 'distended position below the discharge opening. This results in a substantial reduction of time required for iilling ofthe sacks and obviates spillage and waste of material since the sacks are always Vin filling position when the valve is opened. l

Since the portion v of the frame i2. connecting the legs of the U- frame constitutes the handle for manual manipulationof the valve and the sack `holding elements this end of the structure will hereinafter be called the front end.
Hooks i3 depend from each of the tubular members li immediately to the rear of the opening of the bin it, these hooks forming the stationary sack holding elements of the structure. A valve plate lli provided with suitably upwardly extending side flanges rl5 and a front angeV I6 constitutes the valve means for opening and closing the discharge opening of the bin l,the anges l5 being attached to the outer sidesV of the U- frame i2,- by welding or other suitable means, to form supports for the full length of the valve plate l@ while the iiange l@ constitutes a stop for limiting the rearward movement of the frame l2. Iminediately forward of the flange i6 and depending from the legs oi the U-frame l2 are hooks l1 comprising the movable sack holding elements of the structure. Itwill benoticed that the points of the sack holding hooks i3 project rearwardly while the points vof the hooks il project forwardly. Thus, when placing the sack in position for filling, as in Fig. 1, the rear portion of the sack is stretched between the stationary hooks I3 after which the front portion of the sack is stretched between Y the movable hooks ll which are attached to the been secured in position on the hooks I3 and I'I the frame I2 carrying the hooks I'I and the valve plate I4 is pulled forward manually until the sack is stretched between the hooks I3 and I1 during which time the valve plate I4 has moved forwardly thereby opening the discharge opening from the bin I0. Thus, filling ofthe sack is started simultaneously with stretching of the sack Y to the filling position. vAll of these functions are accomplished with three simple manual movements. Stretching the sack over the hooks I3, stretching the sack over the hooks I'I and pulling the frame I2 forwardly.
When the sack has iilled to the desired level, the frame I2 carrying with it the valve plate I4 which closes the discharge opening of the bin I is moved rearwardly and during the time the frame I2 is being moved rearwardly the sack is detached from one or the other set of the hooks I3 or I1 depending upon the level to which the sack has been iilled. After the valve plate I 4 has closed the discharge opening of the bin I0 any portions of the sack remaining attached to any of the sack holding hooks are disengaged and the sack is removed whereupon the foregoing sack filling cycle is repeated.
It should be noted that there is no limit to the forward movement of the frame I2, therefore, the top of the sack will be stretched to its fully opened position when the frame I2 is pulled forwardly thus eliminating any wrinkles in the sides of the sack while it is being iilled. The minimum size of sack which can be held and filled with this device will be governed, of course, by the size of the opening of the bin or chute II).
I claim:
1. In combination with a receptacle having a discharge opening through which material contained in said receptacle is discharged therefrom, a structure for controlling passage of material through said discharge opening and for distending and holding a sack beneath said discharge opening, said structure including a movable operating member having spaced leg portions, guiding elements iixedly supported by said receptacle and arranged to guide said spaced leg portions of said movable operating member for movement during actuation of said movable operating member, a valve member fixed to and movable with said movable operating member into and out of position where it closes said discharge opening, stationary sack holdingV elements in the form of hooks fixed to said guiding elements, and sack holding elements in the form of hooks iixedly mounted on :and movable with said movable operating member and with respect to said stationary sack holding elements,

In combination with a receptacle having a discharge opening through which material contained in said receptacle is discharged therefrom, a structure for controlling passage of material through said. discharge opening and for distending and holding a sack beneath said discharge opening, said structure including a U- shaped movable operating member having spaced leg portions, guiding elements fixedly supported by said receptacle and arranged to guide said spaced leg portions of said movable operating member for movement during actuation of said movable operating member, a valve member fixed to and movable with said movable operating member into andout of position where it closes said discharge opening, stationary sack holding elements in the form of hooks fixed to said guiding elements, and sack holding elements in va structure forecontrlling passage of material through said discharge opening and for distending and holding a sack beneath said discharge opening, said .structure including a U-shaped movable operating member having spaced leg portions, tubular guiding elements iixedly supported bysaid receptacle and arranged to guide said spaced legportions of said movable operating member fori-movement during actuation of saidmovableopelfating member, a valve member fixed to and movable with said movable operating member into and out of position where it closes said dischargeopening, stationary sack holding elements in the form of hooks fixed to said guiding elements, and sack holding elements in the form of hooks xedly mounted on and movable with said movable operating member and with respect'to said stationary sack holding elements.
4. In combination with `a receptacle having a discharge opening through which material contained in said receptacle is discharged therefrom, a structure for controlling passage of material through said discharge opening and for distending and holding-a sack beneath said discharge opening, said. structure including a U-shaped movable operating member having spaced leg portions, tubular guiding elements iixedly supported by said receptacle and arranged to guide said spaced leg portions of |said movable operating member for movement during actuation of said movable operating member, a valve member iixed to and movable withsaid movable operating member into and out of position where it closes said dischargeA opening, stationary sackholding elements fixed to said guiding elements, sack holding elements iixedly mounted on and movable with said movable operating member and with respect to said stationary sack holding elements, said stationary and movable sack holding elements being in the form of pointed hooks with the points of the stationary sack holding elements being extended in a direction diiierent from the direction of extension of the points of the movable sack holding elements, and means for limiting movement of said movable -operating member in one direction.

In combination with a receptacle having a discharge opening through which material contained in said receptacle is discharged therefrom, a structure for controlling passage of material through said discharge opening and for distending and holdingaJ vsack beneath said discharge opening, said structure including a U-shaped movable operating memberhaving spaced leg portions, tubular guiding elements xedly supported by said receptacle and arranged to guide said spaced leg portions of said movable operating member for movement during actuation of said movable operating member, a valve member fixed to and movable with said movable operating member into and out of position where it closes said discharge opening, stationary sack holding elements fixed to said guiding elements, sack holding elements iixedly mounted on and movable with said movable operating member and with respect to said stationary sack holding elements, said stationary and movablewsack holding eleber in one direction.
