SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,506, dated January 17, 185.2.

Figure l is a perspective view of my improvement, shown as extended for use. Fig,2
is aside elevation of the upper part of the same, shown as folded. Fig. 8 is a sectional plan view of the upper part of the same, taken through the line x an, Fig. 2.
The object of thisinvention is to provide rotary clothes-driers, constructed in such a manner that they can be folded compactly for storage and transportation.
The invention consists in a rotary clothesdrier constructed with a slotted pivoted post, bars hinged to the said post carrying the clothes-lines, and having hinged to them the upper ends of connecting-bars, the lower ends of which are hinged to crossed bars placed in the slots ofthe posts, and held down by a lever to put the clothes-lines under tension, and also in the combination, with the slotted post and thelever having ratchet-teeth upon its upper side, of a pawl hinged to the said post, whereby the lever is locked in place holding the clothes-lines under tension, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents a base or pedestal, to which is pivoted the lower end of a post, B. In the post B are formed two `longitudinal slots, at right angles with each other, extending from the upper end of the said post nearly1 to its lower end, and dividing the upper part of the said post into four parallel arms.
To and between th'e upper ends of the arms of the post B are hinged the inner ends of four bars, G. p
To each of the bars C, at a little distance from its inner end, is hinged the upper end of a bar, D, the lower end of which is hinged to an arm ot' thecrossed bars E. The two bars E pass through the slots ot' the post B, and
centers and at the center of the said post.
To the hinged arms O are attached the clothes-lines F, upon which the clothes are hung to be dried, and which are designed to be made of such a length that the bars C cannot swing down quite to a horizontal position.
The upper crossed bar E has a rounded projection or rise in its middle part toserve as a fulcrum to the lever G, which passes through one of the slots of the post B. Through the end of the lever Gis passed a pin, H, the ends of which project to rest against the rear side of the post B', and beneath a pair ot' pins, I, attached to the said post B. Two or more pairs of pins, I, are attached to the post B at different heights for the ends of the pin H to rest against, so that the lever GV can be adjusted as the tautness of the clothes-lines F may require. -With this construction, when cross and are secured to each other at their l the bars C have been lowered as low as their A own weight will carry them, the crosspin H ofthe lever Gr is placed beneath a pair of the pins I, and the free end of the said lever is pressed downward, forcing thecrossed `bars E downward and drawing the bars G toward a horizontal position until the clothes-lines F have been put under the desired tension.
To the post B, at a little distance from its upper end, is hinged a pawl, J, the engaging end ofwhich rests upon ratchet-teeth ]K,forn1ed Y upon or attached to the upper side of the 1ever G, to hold the said lever G, and with 1t the bars C, securely in place.
When the clothes-drier is to be folded, the cross .pin H ot the lever G is hung upon a pair of pins, L, attached to the upper part ot the post B. rEhe outer ends of the bars (l can then be swung upward and inward, which movementfolds the bars C and D com pactly together around the post B, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A rotary clothesdrier constructed substautially as herein shown and described, and consisting of the slotted pivoted post B, the
hinged bars C, carrying the clothes-lines F, the
2. In a rotary clothes-drier, the combination, with the slotted post B, the lever G, and detaining devices, of the hinged bars' C, the oonneeting-bars D, and the crossed bars E, the Y upper one of which has a. rounded projection or rise in the middle of its length, substantially as and for the purpose set'. forth.
3. In a rotary clothes-drier, the combination,
with the slotted post B, provided with pins I,
the hinged bars C, the connecting-bars D, and ro the crossed bars E, of the lever G, provided with the ratchet-teeth K, and the pawl J, substantiallyas and for the purpose set: forth.
