The invention is particularly applicable to doors, partitions and the like,but it will be understood that it is not limited thereto but rnay be e'm- Yb'o'die'd with advantage in wall construction in gen'eral.

The deformations might be partly avoided by glueing greater por- .tions of the panel sheets to thefiller material, ibut this method requires too much glue. It has :also been proposed to use relatively soft mateirial as filler between the walls in order to avoid ;such deformations, but this construction does ,not render the bond between the panel sheets sufficiently'rigid to counteract the tendency of the panel sheets to warp or bend.
vIt is therefore among the objects of the present invention to provide a double walled panel construction which has a supporting structure between the walls which possesses sufficient rigidity to provide a firm bond between the walls and still afford elasticity sufficient to prevent deformation of the panel sheets at the points of attachment between the spaced panels and the intermediate supporting structure.
Additional objects and advantages inherent in the invention will become more apparent from the following specification taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings which disclose by way of example a preferred and a modified embodiment of the inventive concept.

LfiMore specifically the invention contemplates zarwa'llbonstruction comprising a pair of spaced :panels,- whichpanels are applied to opposite sides :cifaaf frame, and between which panels is-arranged tan intermediate supporting structure consisting of a;series-.of.-ribs of .relatively hard and rigid imaterial, 'jwhich ribs are free -of direct icontaet with the panels and are providedonseither one 0r-'on both sides :with-a relatively soft material which@projects'beyond .the ribs so as-to contact theipa'nels and exert a slight pressure there- :against. 4 Referringini greater detail to the drawing iin which the same reference characters serve to indicate the same or analogous parts, the panels 16, which may consist of plywood, fiber, wood, wallboard, plastic or other suitable material, are connected to the frame H, which may consist of wood, deadwood or some other suitable material. In the particular embodiments shown in the drawing, the frame is recessed at opposite sides to engage the frame [2 of the door opening which has been shown in broken lines since it does not form part of the invention. One side of the door may be hinged to the frame l2 as at i3. Between the panels Ill are arranged a series of spaced ribs M of relatively hard and rigid material, such as hard wallboard, plywood, hard fiber, wood, etc. These ribs preferably extend from one side of the frame to the other. In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, these ribs are arranged with their wider sides parallel to the panels 10.

The modification shown in Figures 3 and i differs from the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2 in that the ribs [4 are arranged with their wider sides perpendicular to the panels l0. It is important, however, that the edges 16 of these ribs are free of direct contact with the interior surfaces of the panels. On the other hand, the members [5 have been selected of such width or height that they exert a slight pressure against the interior surfaces of the panels when the latter are adjusted to the frame H.
In the embodiments shown in the drawing, the members If: have been shown as individual pieces attached to the ribs i l in spaced relationship from one another and the pieces on adjoining ribs arranged in alternate fashion. It should be understood, however, that various other arrangements may be made without departing from the invention; Furthermore, instead of consisting of individual pieces, the members 15 may consist What is claimed is:
1. A double walled panel construction comprising a pair of spaced panels, a series of relatively spaced and comparatively thin ribs-of substantially rigid material extending between said panels and being spaced from the interior surfaces of said panels, and a series of comparatively thick members of resilient material spaced along each of said ribs and engaging the interior surfaces of said panels in pressure-urged relationship.
2. A double walled panel construction comprising a frame, a pair of spaced panels, a series of relatively spaced and comparatively thin ribs of substantially rigid material extending between said panels and connected to opposite frame members, said ribs being spaced from the interior of a continuous strip, but in this case it might be bers l4 about 2% larger than the size they will have when glued to the panels.
It will be understood that by reason of the relatively soft or compressible members [5 which are fixed to the relatively stiff or non-compressible ribs 14 and exert a slight pressure against the interior surfaces of the panels 10, a firm and still --resilient bond is provided between the panels which is free of theobj'ections connected with a supporting structure composed entirely of either rigid or soft material.
It should also be emphasized that this descrip tion has been given by way of example and not byway of limitation. On the other hand, the invention lends itself to a variety of expressions within the scope of the following claims.
