(01. 155- 182) 1 This invention relates to chair covers. It is an object of the present invention to provide a chair 'cover'which can. be easily slipped over an open arm chair and over the arms, of
the same. These covers will be ifastened together at the seat "level below the arm of the chair and at the baokfrom the seat to the level :of the arm. Thusthe seat 'coverscan be adjusted to the chair with aiminim-um of effort and without interferonce from the arms.
This method of construction eliminates bulky seams, gaping border openings and provides the means of-keeping the finished'article smooth and well matched. .otherrobjects of thecpresentfi-nvention are. to provide za' seat cover which of simple construction, inexpensive, less tedious and :quicker to manufacture "and convenient to use.
According, to the invention, the seat cover is (formed-to :fit 'the seat and the back of the chair and at the locations where the arms ef-the chair are projected; there are provided openings whereby the seat-cover can be islippeddownwardly over the arms of the 'chair'toth'e :level "of. the.
seat, -thus leaving the arms of the chair exposed. Once the seat cover has been disposed roverjthe which the armsyof the chair were extended are fastened together to finally fit the :cover tightly about the chair. The fastening means will exttend alongv the side :edge :of the :rear :of. the seat and upwardly to the elevation/of the chair arm.
; Thefastening means may take @theform of isnaips,
snap-tape, zippers or zany other' common means which are employed with. seat ;00V81S.
fa modified form of the invention, a :piece of loose material which may be .stretched is :provided about the portion-of the opening which extends about the bottom of the armrests whereby to provide a sealing engagement with the arm rests toiprevent articles or other unatter from getting under the seat cover so .as to stainor In the accompanying drawing iormingaa -ma+ terial part of this disclosure: Rig. 1 is aperspective viewaof a chair with th sea-t ycover :embodying the .features, of the pres ent inventionedisposedithereon; -.'-E g.,-2 .-is a..fragmenta1y=viewwor.thesseat cover (2' looking upon the-inside of the exterior wall portion of the cover about the opening.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional View taken in the region of the arm opening of the cover.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of the seat coverplooking upon the opening with the fastening elements about to be brought together to close the opening.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of the seat cover in which there is provided in the portion of the opening adapted to extend about the arm material which can be stretched tightly about the arm whereby to prevent articles from gettingrbeneath the cover.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of the portion of the opening of the cover and of the elastic closure means therein.
Fig. {7 is .a crosssectional view taken on line 1 --?l of .Fig. 6.
Referring now to the figures, t0 represents .a chair over which a slip'cover ll bearing the .features of the present invention is extended. This chair .has arms 12 with vertical supports [3 exchair, the fastening means 'of the opening. through tending from the seat portion of the chair to support the outer ends of the arms. The seat cover .is made so that the same can be slipped from the top of the chair downwardly and is pro.- v-ided with openings at the sides and rear, "as indicated at I4, through'which the arm portions and supports are extended so that the opening will .lie at the base of the arm portions and at the seat .level.
On the back part of the seat cover and adapted to extend around the side edge thereof beneath I are disposed .snapfastener elements 2|.
the arm I2 is a projection I5.having snap fastener elements 16 thereon. This'projection is fastened in place by cooperating snap fastener I elements .1 on the back wall of the cover. Piping i8 extends about the top of the projection l5 and upwardly around the'inner end of the arm. This piping is extended about the slip coverto add 'to its appearance.
vOn the seat .portion of the cover, there is extended downwardly aflange 19 (Fig. 3) on which At the exterior of the, opening, there is vprovided on border materialZZ, cooperating 'sn'ap fastenerelements 2-3 which unite with the elements 21 to finally close the arm opening 14. About the portion of. the opening which extends about the base of the arm support I 3, there :is provided pipin'gl'l.
Refenringsnow particularly :to Figs. 5, G and 7, there iis'isho'wn (provided about that portion of thetzopenirrg' 4 rwhichiextends about the bottom of the arm support I3, elastic material 26 adapted to be wrapped tightly about the bottom of the arm support whereby to effectively close the space outwardly of the piping 24. An elastic 21 may extend through the folded edge of the material 26, as shown in Fig. 7.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
