- the upsetting of the ends of the clamp produces a compression of the material of the parts 5 and 6 as shown in Fig. 4, so that the upset or riveted ends of the clamp overlie the edges of the parts 5 and 8 and firmly secure the clamp to the'two parts. These latter cannot separate any more and remain in their interengaged position.
- the central portion 33 of the clamp 30 projecting beyond the outer face of the two parts 5 and 6 serves as stop for limiting the movement of the slider H], as shown in Fig. 1. Owing to this projecting clamp the slider cannot be lowered so far that the wedge portion 36 of the slider abuts against the end stop, or that the two parts 5 and 5 of the end stop are urged into the diverging guide passages of the slider; accordingly the two parts 5 and 6 are not subjected to any effort tending to separate them. In this manner, the clamp 30 itself is never subjected to any considerable stress, since its purpose is only to hold the two "parts 5 and '6 together, but these parts are not subjected to any effort tending to pull them out of engagement with each other.
- the clamp When anew slider is to be engaged on the stringers of the fastener, the clamp can be removed from engagement with the two parts 5 and t 'by means of an appropriate tool. Then the old slider can be pulled off from the stringers and a new one can be engaged thereon without requiring to remove the end stop members -5 and 6 from the tapes 1 and 2, which would be impossible with the members die-cast directly on the tapes.
- the part 6 of the end stop -on the tape 2 has its side facing the last fastener element 4 provided with'coupling ribs 1 and 8, and with coupling grooves 9 and 10, like one side of the coupling head of the fastener elements 4.
- the ribs 1 and -'8 of the part 6 engage with the grooves l3 and [4 of the last fastener element '4 on the tape 1, and the ribs l1 and I2 of this element-"engage with the grooves 9 and I 0 of the part 6.

- the branches of the clamp 3% are not passed through slots in the outer faces of the two parts of the end stop, but through tapering holes 38 provided in the two parts 5 and 9.
- these parts consist of thermoplastic material, this latter is compressed upon forcing the branches of the clamp into the holes 38 of decreasing diameter, thus producing a frictional engagement between the clamp and the two parts.
- the ends of the branches of the clamp are riveted as shown in Fig. 9.

- the holes for insertion of the clamp are cylindrical and formed with enlarged ends 33 into which the ends of the branches can be riveted.
- the central web of the clamp is entirely sunk into the recesses 34 and 35 of the parts 5 and E, and accordingly does not act as limiting abutment for the movement of the slider. This latter is stopped by abutment of the wedge 36 against the end stop members 5 and 6.
- the advantages of the described fastener are that the stringers can be cast together with the end stops on both ends thereof by a single casting operation in the same die and the two part end stop 5, 6 allows to readily exchange a slider for another one. Further, when the fastener elements and the end stop members consist of thermoplastic material, the coloring of the fastener elements and of the end stop member is absolutely identical, since they are cast simultaneously in a single operation and accordingly from the same supply of material.
- the removable part is in the form of a U- shaped member having opposite legs and a base, the coupling members having exterior grooves for receiving said legs and base with said U-shaped member in embracing relation to said coupling members, with said base extending across said coupling members and said legs lying at those sides of said coupling members which are remote from each other, the terminal portions of said legs extending inwardly toward each other at the sides of said coupling members opposite said base for engaging said coupling members for securing said U-shaped member in assembled relation therewith.
