The gate 8! is swung in a clockwise direction when the bar 50 is retracted as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing. When the bar is pulled, the gate 8| prevents the packet of matches from being pulled back into the match chute.
Each bar 50 may be provided at one side thereof with a straight ratchet 80a. Pivoted alongside each chute 40, as at Ma, is a spring pressed pawl 82 adapted to engage said ratchet. The pawl and ratchet insure against pushing the bar rearwardly unless it is fully retracted to a point where the pawl 82 is by-passed by the ratchet.
Any number of pairs of chutes 35, 40 may be provided in the machine.
In front of and between each pair of chutes 4|) is a vertical cylindrical container 83 adapted to contain pennies. Means, not shown in this application, but
"described fully in my co-pending application filed on the 16th day of May, 1946, l which matured as Patent No. 2,457,187, December '28. 1948, is provided to dispense one or more pennies in change each time articles are dispensed from the chute 35.
a It will thus be seen that there is provided a.
device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
