' 1 This invention relates generally to dispensing packages and more particularly to a dispensin package arranged to contain a confection such as ice cream which may be readily dispensed by the user as the material contained therein is consumed.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of a confection dispensing package 4 Claims. (01. 222386) arranged to contain a commodity such as ice cream which can be extruded therefrom at the will of the user.
Another object is the provision of a sanitary container for receiving, storing and dispensing a confection commodity such as ice cream.
Other objects and advantages of this invention appear hereinafter in the following description and claims.
A practical embodiment illustrating the principles of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing wherein; V

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the inner or telescoping member of the package;
Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of the lid of the dispensing package;
Fig. 4 is a view in vertical section of the outer and inner members in telescopic relation with the lid enclosing confection material therein.
Fig. 5 is a view in vertical section illustrating the ejection of the material in dispensing the same from the package.
Referring to Fig. l of the drawings, the outer container member I may be made of any suitable material but is preferably constructed from a waterproof paper of single-ply thickness. This paper container may be water-proofed by a paramn or other suitable material to make it impervious to ice cream or other edible foods and which will not chemically react or otherwise contaminate food. This container is provided with the folded or rolled annular end edges or beaded rim such as illustrated at the top at 2 and at the bottom at 3. These containers are ordinarily formed from sheet material in which case a longitudinal seam 4 will occur at some position on the container. The outer container member I should be substantially uniform in diameter from one end to the other and provided with an inturned annular flange 5 spaced from the lower rolled edge 3. The flange 5 may be pressed therein during the operation of forming the container.
The inner or telescoping member a cylinder having a, closed end wall I made integral therewith. This container is preferably made of a multi-ply paper treated or otherwise ever, it is preferable to make the whole of the container of such a material. The inner telescoping member 6 is of true cylindrical form, the outside diameter of which is substantially the same as the inside diameter of the outer container member I so that it may fit into the lower end of the. container and seal against the under surface of the annular inturned flange 5. When the inner member 6 is inserted in the lower end of the outer member I the ice cream or other foodstufi may be placed in the upper chamber 8. Even when the foodstufi is in liquid form it will not penetrate beyond the inturned flange 5 as the inner telescoping member 6 provides a seal with the inner surface of the cylindrical walls of the container l and it also provides an additional seal at the inturned flange 5. After the material has been stored in the package as illustrated in Fig. 4 the lower flange 9 of the lid I0 is spread and inserted around the upper flange 2 of the container I as shown in Fig. 4. This lid may be constructed in many diflerent ways. As shown, the annular depending flange 9 is made by folding a perimetral portion of the material subjecting the same to a water-proofing treatment that increases its rigidity. After this lid has been placed over the flange 2 the dispensing package, with its ice cream, may be refrigerated or otherwise stored preparatory to distribution toretail markets.
When the dispensing package is sold the user merely moves the inner cylindrical member 8 upwardly into the container I causing the ice cream in the chamber 8 to be extruded through the top of the container forcing the lid it off its seat by spreading the annular flange 9. The inner cylindrical member 6 collapses the flange 5 as it is forced past the same. The lid may then be readily removed and the contents may be eaten from the top of the container I by the user. When the upper portion of the extruded food has been eaten away the inner cylindrical member 8 is moved further upwardly into the container l to expose an additional amount of food for consumption.
All of the surfaces of this food dispensing package that come in contact with the food are 6 comprises 56 covered or otherwise protected from the hands during its storage or distribution thereby providing the best sanitation possible.
If desired, the seam II on the inner telescoping member I may be caused to mate with the seam I of. the outer container member I for the purpose of aiding the sealing relation between the two members and for guiding the inner member as it is forced into the outer member while dispensing the material from the chamber 8.
If desired, a movable bottom I! may be placed on the fiange I as shown in Fig. 1 in which case the inner telescoping member 8 need not remain with the package but be supplied separately when the ice cream is sold. This arrangement provides the opportunity of utilizing the inner telescoping member I as a dual purpose article with other uses including advertising, a beverage container, a trinket box or other similar container with a removable lid l3 seated inthe groove It as indicated in Fig. 5.
I claim:
1. In an ice cream dispenser, the combination I of an open-ended cylinder of waterproof material, a second cylinder of waterproof material constructed to telescope in and closely fit the walls of the first cylinder and substantially the same length as the same, an inwardly extending collapsible annular groove formed in the perimetral surface of the first cylinder closely adjacent the bottom thereof to provide a temporary stop to limit the insertion of the second cylinder into the first cylinder and maintaining a greater portion of the second cylinder extended from the first cylinder to provide a storage receiver in the other end of the first cylinder for containing an edible confection, and an annular rim on the bottom of the first cylinder to aid in gripping the second cylinder, whereby the second cylinder may be moved into the first cylinder to collapse the annular groove and extrude the edible confection.
2. In an ice cream dispenser, the combination of an open-ended cylinder of waterproof material having rolled ends to stiffen the same, a removable cup-shaped lid having its perimeter extending over one of said rolled ends to enclose the same, a second cylinder of waterproof material arranged to telescope in and closely fit the walls of the first cylinder, an inwardly extend-' ing collapsible annular groove formed in the perimetral surface of the first cylinder adjacent to the other end thereof to provide a temporary stop which limits the insertion of the second 4 cylinder into the first cylinder and provides a storage receiver in the first cylinder for containing an edible confection, whereby the second cylinder may be moved into the first cylinder to collapse the annular groove and remove the lid by extruding the edible confection therefrom.
3. In an ice cream dispenser, the combination of an open-ended cylinder of waterproof material, a second cylinder of waterproof material arranged to telescope in and closely fit the walls of the first cylinder, an inwardly extending collapsible annular groove formed in the perimetral surface of the first cylinder adjacent one end thereof to provide a temporary stop to limit the insertion ofthe second cylinder into the first cylinder, a false bottom of waterproof material resting on said annular groove to provide a storage receiver in the upper end of said first cylinder for containing an edible confection, whereby the second cylinder may be moved into the first cylinder to collapse the annular groove and engage the false bottom to extrude the edible confection from the upper end of the first cylinder.
4. In an ice cream dispenser, the combination of an open-ended cylinder of waterproof material, a second cylinder of waterproof material arranged to telescope in and closely fit the walls of the first cylinder, said second cylinder having integral bottom and being hollow, a removable lid for closing the open end of said second cylinder, an inwardly extending collapsible annular groove formed in the perimetral surface of the first cylinder adjacent one end thereof to provide a temporary stop to limit the insertion of the second cylinder into the first cylinder and to provide a storage receiver in the other end of the first cylinder for containing the edible confection, whereby the second cylinder may be moved into the first cylinder to collapse the annular groove and extrude the edible confection therefrom and the lid on the second cylinder may be removed to expose the interior of said second cylinder.
