actuating the shaft 21 comprises the elements previously described, but instead, the motor 32' and reducer 33 are mounted in alignmentwith the shaft 21 so that chuck 360 positioned on the end of the reducer may operate releasably to engage the outer end portion of the shaft to impart rotational movement thereto. The plate or bed on which the motor 32' and reducer 33' are mounted, is suitably secured to a beam 355', one end portion of which is supported by a standard 35|" and the other end of which is clamped to an I'bearn.
A grinding unit is mounted for sliding movement on the cross arm I0, different positions of the unit being illustrated by the solid and broken lines in Figure l, and consists essentially of an electric motor actuating means 43 for driving a grinding wheel lili secured to the end of an elongate shaft 45 intermediately supported by a bearing 4S and operatively connected to the spindle 41 of the motor through a iiexible coupling 48. The above parts are vassembled to comprise a unitary structure on a mounting plate 49 As illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings, the
grinding assembly G is mounted on 'the cross beam I 0 in a manner to direct the rotating grinding Iwheel 44 towards engagement with selected disc 3|.
For the purpose of enabling free rotational movement of the grinding unit G, a turntable T is provided consisting of a block 53 having a central transverse groove 54 contiguous with a channel groove 55 having a contour similar to `that of the upper portion of the I-beam I0 enabling sliding movement of the block relative thereto. Set'screws 5B, threadably engaging vapertures 51 through the underside of block, are adapted to bear against the fianges of the I-beam when in the desired position of lateral adjustment, militating against subsequent relative movement thereof until such time as the screws are again retracted from engagement with the-I-beam IIJ; A vcentral-pillar 53 integral with another upwardly. extending pillar 59 of smaller diameter provides Va shoulder Bil there-between on which seats one race of an antifriction rollerbearing 6I. The other race engages an internal shoulder formed by the side walls 62'and an annular ridge 63 of an inverted cup-.shape member 54 disposed over and-spacedfrom the concentric pillars. The cup-shaped member64 is firmly positioned in the vertical plane relative to the supporting block by means of a flathead bolt 65 adapted loosely to fit through a central aperture 66 in the cup-shaped member and threadably to e11- gage a threaded aperture 81 in the upper pillar 59. A roller bearing 68 disposed between the underside of the flat head bolt and the upper surface of the cup-shaped member enables free relative rotational movement therebetween. In this manne-r the cup-shaped member 64 is firmly positioned and yet is rotatable independently of its support. Counter-sunk screws 59 disposed through the side walls E2 of the cup-shaped member threadably engage the mounting plate 49 which is apertured in a manner enabling the turntable T to be disposed therein.
In operation the side beams I| and I2 rst are disposed on the ground in a direction perpendicular to the axle 21 and in alignment with each journal box 26, and they are interconnected in that position by the superposed cross beam I!! by means of the connectors C previously described. The upright blocks 2| are then positioned on each side beam I I and I2 and the shaft 21 raised so as to dispose the journal boxes in the channels 28 enabling the shaft 21 and mounted discs 3| to be rotated freely by one of the power means described. Thereafterlthe turntable T-with attached mounting plate 49 may be shifted transversely on the cross beam I0 to the predetermined position of adjustment to provide the desired angular relationship between the grinding wheel '44 'and the discs 3|. The independent actuating means enables uniform rotational movement of the disc and grinding wheel respectively, the coil spring 5||l urging the members towards engagement with each other with equal force so that uniform grinding is obtained throughout the periphery of each blade 3|. It is manifest that the grinding unit G may be shifted laterallyon the beam I0, thus to engage thev front or rear of each blade as desired.
From the above description, it is manifest that I have produced a simple device for sharpening the-disc blades of a harrow or the like, in a manner which does not necessitate disconnection thereof from the traction means and from a direction that does not conflict with the frame work of the farm`machinery. The device combines relatively few readily available elements that are easily assembled into a unitary sturdy structure particularly adapted for the purposes desired. In addition, y.flexibility and adjustment of the grinding forces and grinding angle may be made without effort or the expenditure of considerable time.
Thus I have produced a simple, portable but compact unit for .grinding blades of various elements and particularly the disc blades of a harrow without the'need of transporting the more cumbersome machines to a central processing location. 1
Itis to-"b'e understood that numerous other changes maybe made in the details and construction arrangement and operation without departing from the spirit of the invention especially as defined in the appended claims.
yWhat I claim is:
1.1A disc grinding device comprising a disc carrying shaft, a pair of spaced parallel supporting frame membersA disposed substantially at rightangles to the disc carrying shaft, a cross arm connecting said members and adjustable longitudinally thereof, a block releasably mounted on each ofA said members for supporting the disc carrying shaft,` a grinding wheel, a turntable mountingsaid wheel and translatorily shiftable transversely von said cross arm, means for securing said turntable against translatory shifting movement, spring means connecting the turntable and cross arm for urgingsaid grinding wheel into engagement with a disc, and individual driving means for the disc carrying shaft;
2, A disc grinding device as claimed in claim 1, in which the supporting frame members and cross arm comprise I beams, and brackets connecting said cross arm to each frame member, said brackets being adapted slidingly to fit a anged portion of each adjacent beam respectively, and set screws in said brackets engageable with said beams for locking same vin the assembled position. 4
3. A disc grinding device as claimedin claim 1, in which' the blocks comprise rigid pillars l5 having a frame member engaging bracket on one end and a channel onthe other mounting the disc carrying shaft, and set screw means for releasably securing said bracket in position.

A disc grinding device as claimed in claim d 1, in which the turntable comprises a block having a groove adapted slidingly to engage vsaid crossarm, means for locking said block in the desired position of sliding adjustment, integral hub sections of large and small diameter respectively, an inverted cup-shaped member disposed over said hub sections, anti-friction means between the cup member and hub sections, a bolt disposed through an aperture in said cup member and threadably engaging said hub sections, and anti-friction means disposed between the head of said bolt and said cup-shaped member.
