COMBINED TOY AND BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,757, dated January 3, 1852.
Application filed November 19, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, FORTONATO 0. ZANETTI, of Bryan, in thecounty of Brazos and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specification.

This invention relates to stoppers for hottles; and it consists in certain improvements in the same whereby the outpouring fluid may be utilized to set in motion an automaton attached to said stopper, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the body of the stopper, which consists of a tube closed atth-e upper end, and provided with a flange, B, below which it has atapering packing-ring, O, adapting it to be fitted in the mouth of an ordinary bottle. Said packingring may be made of cork, rubber, or any other suitable material. 7
From the upper partof tube A, above flange B, a slotted tube or gutter, D, extends diago nally-upward, as shown. Through this gutter, which communicates with the stopper-tube, as shown, the liquid may be readily poured from the bottle. The opening E between the tube A and gutter D ma y be closed by a suitablyconslructed automatic valve, F, which when the bottle is tilted opens so as to permit the fluid to escap'e,while when the bottle reassumes its vertical position it closes so as to prevent the fluid from evaporating or deteriorating.
Gisa suitably-constructed U shaped bracket, adjustable upon the gutter D by means of lugs H upon its inner sides, which, when the said bracket is slid in position upon the gutter,
. catch over the edges of the latter, as shown in Fig. 2, thus retaining the said bracket in position. Bracket G is provided with bearings for a transverse shaft, I, carrying a paddle-wheel, J, which receives its motion from the fluid poured out through the gutterD. This paddlewheel is suitably connected with and utilized to operate asuitably-constructed jointed figure or automaton, K--as in the drawings, a bicyexpense and increasing the amusement to be derived from the device. This, however, is not necessary,and the bracket G may be made to form an integral part of the gutter D.
Havingthus described my invention, 1 claim 7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. A bottle-stopp r consisting of a tube, A, closed at the upper end, and having flange B, packing-ring G, and diagonally-npward-projecting gutter D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A bottle-stopper consisting of a tube, A, closed at the upper end and having flange B, packing-ring G, (liagonally-upwardprojeoting gutter D, and self-closing valve F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with a bottle-stopper having a gutter for the escape of fluid, of an automaton or jointed figure actuated by a paddle-wheel which is operated by the escaping fluid, substantially as set forth.
4. The bottle-stopper A, having gutter D for the escapeof fluid, in combination with the removable U-shaped bracket Gr, having lugs H, shaft I, paddlewheel J, and automaton K, substantially as set forth.
