This invention relates to a two position bench sitter which is especially adapted for use by bakers.
An object of the invention is to provide a device which is portable, inexpensive and adapted for use on a bakers bench or similar support.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the details of construction arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is the same with the draw removed and the sifter partly broken away;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2 and Figure 4 is a top plan view of the sifter.
Referring more in detail to the drawings the reference numeral Ill designates the sifter generally which comprises the hopper l2 having the angularly inclined sides l4 and ends 16 which is formed on the upper end of the rectangular shaped elongated hollow body IS. The bottom of the hopper communicates with the hollow body along the marginal edges thereof and the hopper is provided with a lid 20 hinged thereto at 22.
Extending transversely of the body [8 adjacent the bottom of the hopper is a shaft 24 which is journalled in the sides of the body and provided with collars 28 for retaining the shaft in proper position.
The shaft 24 has a circular brush 28 mounted thereon and an arcuate screen 30 is secured to the body adjacent the brush 28.
One end of the shaft 24 is provided with a bevelled gear 32 which meshes with a bevelled gear 34 on the drive shaft 36 of the motor 38 which is secured to a bracket support 40 by bolts 42. The bracket being secured to the side of the body by welding or the like.
The body It is provided with a base 44 which will support the body in a vertical position as desired.
The body is open at the front thereof to receive a draw 46 having an inclined front 48 and curved upper end 50, on which a knob 52 is secured.
A flexible cover 54 secured to the front of the body covers the drawer during sifting'of the flour, and when not in use is secured in raised position by fastener 56, as shown in Figure 2 an eyelet 58 in the cover engages the knob 52 and fastener 56 in its various positions.
3 Claims. (Cl. 209283) In use the sifter is placed on the bench as shown in Figure 1, the lid 20 is raised and the hopper I2 is filled with flour.
In this position the hopper is lower to the horizontal to afford greaterease in filling. Inthis position the flour main weight rests on the front side of the hopper and not onthe brush 28 to bind and stop rotation thereof. A full load of flour can still be accommodated and there is sufficient gravity for the flour to feed gradually and adequately to the brush.
The motor is started and the flour is sifted into the draw 46 from which the flour can be removed as desired, without any vertical lift due to the shape of the draw.
After a short period the sifter can be moved to the position shown in Figure 2 allowing all flour to discharge from the hopper. The motor can be stopped and the draw removed forthe discharge of all flour from the drawer.
Thus during the whole operation the main weight of the flour has been removed from the brush thus preventing binding of the brush or interruption of the rotation of the brush.
It is believed that the operation and construction of the sifter will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In a sifting device of the character described, a hopper for receiving material to be sifted, a revoluble brush positioned at the lower end of said hopper, an arcuate screen positioned adjacent said revoluble brush, a receptacle provided with an inclined front wall for receiving said sifted material, a horizontally extending base portion, said hopper being capable of selective positioning in either a vertical or angular position, said hopper being positioned in the vertical position when resting on said horizonta1 base portion and being positioned in an angular position when resting on the inclined front wall of said receptacle.
2. In a flour sifting device capable of adjustment in two positions, a hopper for receiving flour to be sifted, a revoluble brush positioned at the lower end of said hopper, an arcuate screen positioned below said revoluble brush and adjacent thereto, a horizontal base portion for supporting said hopper in th vertical position, a
drawer for receiving the sifted flour, said drawer being provided with an inclined front portion and a flexible cover, said flour sifting device being capable of bein positioned in either the vertical or inclined position simply by selecting the base on which said hopper rests, said hopper being in the vertical position when resting on said horizontal base, and being in the inclined position when resting on said inclined front portion of said drawer.
3. In a bench sifter, the combination which comprises a rectangular shaped box-like casing, a cylindrical brush extended longitudinally through the casing and journaled therein, a semicircular screen fixedly mounted in the lower part of the casing positioned around and spacedfrom the lower half of the brush whereby the screen coacts with the brush, means feeding material to the casing, a hollow rectangular shaped base extended downwardly from the casing and having an opening in one side thereof, said base supporting the body. in an upright position, a reniovable drawer having arectangular shaped sectionne sted in. the base ofthe sifter-and having a triangularshaped section extendedfrom the base, saidtriangularshaped section havin an inclined lower surface and' said inclined lower surface 4 providing a supporting base for supporting the said sifter in an inclined position, and means rotating the said brush.
