This invention relates to burners, and more particularly to gas burners for heating'furnaces.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a novel gas burner consisting of a novel gas manifold supported upon a standard, and having a plurality of radially arranged gas outlets, a plurality of outlet pipes joined to and projecting outwardly from said outlets, and a plurality of novel burner tips carried on j the ends of said pipes.
It is the object of this invention to provide a 4burner tip characterized by` means for admitting air into a stream of gasl remote from the point of combustion. g
It is the further object of this invention to provide a novel cap for said burner tip which is adapted to produce a flame .characterized by a plurality of combustible mixture sources.
It is the further object of this invention Ato provide a cap for said burner tip which" will hold the i'lame to the outer end of said burner tip- It is the further object of this invention to provide an air deector plate which cooperates with the inner walls of the furnace and which has a plurality of openings corresponding to each burner tip for directing secondary air to the 'point of combustion of each burner tip.
It is the further object of vthis invention to provide a gas burner with a hollow gas manifold l therefor which is positioned within a gas furnace combustion chamber, with said manifold having a plurality of gas outlets within which are positioned a plurality of spaced burner tips.
These and other objects will be seen from the following specification in conjunction with the appended drawings of which:

Referring to Figures 1 through 7, a hot air furnace is shown in Figure 1 .with outer `shell H and inner combustion chamber housing I 2 mounted on hollow cylindrical base I3, both; in spaced relation to shell Il.
The upper part of housing I2 supports hot air radiation member ,M in communication therewith, with the products of combustion escaping therethrough and through stack opening. |5.

air which contacts the outer side walls of base I3, combustion chamber l2, and radiation member le, Hot air passes upwardly into dome I1 on shell H and is directed as desired for heating purposes through suitable ducts not shown, which are joined to said dome at outlet ports I8'.
Standard i9 with support 20, is threaded into lharige 2! which forms a part of hollow gas manifold 22 The latter has a gas inlet port 23 for threadably receiving a suitable gas inlet pipe '23. Said manifold also has a plurality of .spaced circumferentially arranged threaded outlet ports 221, within which are threaded a plurality of gas outlet conduit pipes 25.
Said outlet pipes extend outwardly in a horizontal plane and have angular nipples 26 threaded to their outer ends. Burner tips 21 shown in detail in Figures 3, 4 and v5, have a iny thev positions and arrangement shown `in ingures land 2.
Referring to Figures 3, 4 and 5, burner tips 21, preferably made of brass, have hexagonal outer surfaces to facilitate assembly thereof by a suitable wrench upon the ends of nipples 26. Gas intake opening 28 joins jet opening 29 in tip 21 with enlarged mixing A pair of oppositely arranged 'air inlet openings li are formed in burner 21 adjaoent to jet opening 29, whereby the flow of gas through ,jet 29 and into chamber 3G has the effect of drawing inr the necessary air to provide .a combustible mixture.
, :Said combustible mixture is carried through chamber 30 whichconverges partially at its outer u supplied to,l the burner tip 21.
It will be noted that the outer portion 32 of the burner tip is formed of reduced diameter to receive hollow formed burner cap 33 which is pressed thereon. Portion 32 terminates in a gradually converging end portion 34 within which are formed the four transverse auxiliary outlets .35.
Cap ..33 tightly engages the reduced end 32 of burner 21; and also has an outer hollow portion of increased diameter to form the annular space 3S between the interior walls of cap 33 and the converging tip 3l', of the burner.
Thus, it will be noted that an important'feature of the burner tip 21; is that a.1combustib1e mixture escapes at its outer fend :at A J11t1et-zor nozzle 3l', and at the same time a portion hof the combustible mixture goesinto .andescapes out of the end of annular chamber 36 by virtue of the transverse outlets 35.
It has been found that without said cap 33, whichis also made of brass, the flame .blows itselfriut, either by the force of the gastravel- .lngthrough the burner tip 21, -or by the force of the air which strikes it. On the other hand, hy .using cap..v33 the ameis maintainedat all Y timesat the end of the burner.
Circular air deflector plate 31 has, a plurality ..of.radial .slots 38- arcuately curved at 3 9, corresponding to each-v of the. separateburner tips .21 vwhich.angularly project up through said, slots.
Said slots terminate at their inner ends .strips @which form apart of plate 31.
It.will.be noted that said plate is supported-by ,fsaidstripsud which respectively rest upon the louter Wallsof each of the burnertips-21. Said;
tips each project through slots 38 with their outer arcuateportions thereof cooperatively en- ,gaging ,the lower outer .walls ofsaid tips.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.a plurality of .secondary ,air openings or slots .4l are -formed in plate 31 adjacent said platestripsA, corresponding `to eachof the slots 3B,. andthe burner tips..21 whichproject through saidvslots.

The burner above described and illustrated in Figures 1 through 5 is employed particularly in converting coal or oil furnaces to gas furnaces, inasmuch as the changeover is effected merely by removing the grates or oil heating means and inserting the gas heater which is mounted -upon its standard l9-2o, at the .same time utilizing'the re box I2-l3zalready available.
Referring to Figures 6, '1, 8 and 9, the same principles of invention are employed for the construction and manufacture of a gas heater. In Figure 8, a gas heater or furnace is shown with `outer shell 5D and with hollow substantially :squareoombustion chamber 5l formed by the box like housing member 52 with downwardly rconverging'bottom portion 53. Suitable means are employed for supplying air to chamber 5|; while the products of combustion rise upwardly into-hollow heat exchange radiator 54. Said heat exchanger has a secondary hollow concentric -Qhamber 55 .joined thereto .bypassage .56. The products of combustion can then escape Ktoda suitablestack .through stack opening 5 1 Air tobe heated passes upwardly around combustion chamber 5l-52 within the hollow portions A53 4and'.i9,.past heat exchanger ,541-55. ..and .into dome (i0 for subsequent disposalor heating..purposes .in the conventional manner.
The gasburner element consists of the hollow rectangular gas manifold 6| which is supported 4.within*combustion chamber 5l by its gassupply pipe 52 threaded thereto, which projects through anopeningin the front wall of4 box member-52.
