Description

July 18, 1950 T. NEF T HOLDER FOR SLENDER RODS, INCLUDING AN ELASTIC WEB HAVING A RODRECEIVING APERTURE THEREIN Filed Aug. 5, 1946 I 'mentor 20 a Attorneys Patented July 18, 19.50
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDER Fon SLENDER Rous, INCLUDING AN ELAs'rlo WEB HAVING A Ron-RECEIV- ING APEBTUBE THEREIN Y 'rime Neff, Los Angeles, Calif. Applieatiun August a, 194s, serial N0. 688,273
This invention relates to new and useful vimprovements and structural renements in writers implements and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herein described which includes in its construction a plurality of accessories such as a pencil, hard and soft erasers, a brush and a glazing sphere, these being connected together by a exible holder of novel design whereby said accessories are selectively and readily available for convenient use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a writers implement in which the aforementioned accessories are removably secured in their respective positions.
Another object of the invention is to provide a writers implement in which the use of one of said accessories is not obstructed or otherwise impaired by the presence of the other accessories with which it is associated.
An additional object of the invention is to pro-- vide a writers implement which is simple in construction and which will not easily become damaged.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a writers implement which will readily lend itself to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects in view and such other objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the construction and arrangement of parts as shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a plan View of the invention,
Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 2-2 in Figure 1, one of the rods, however, not being shown,
Figure 3 is an enlarged, cross-sectional detail of an adaptor used in the invention and,
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional detail of a sleeve used in the same.
Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specication and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a writers implement designated generally by the reference character l0, the same embodying in its construc- I Z'Claims. (Cl. 287-49) The blind bore I5 of the adaptor I4 is designed to receive a sleeve I6 hereinafter more fully detailed, and each of the adaptors Ill is provided on the lateral surface thereof with a locking catch Il. One end of this catch is pivotally connected to the adaptor by means of a suitable pivot pin I8, while a detent I9 is provided adjacent the remaining end of the catch, as will be clearly apparent from the -accompanying drawings.
The aforementioned sleeve I6 is, in elect, an extension of a sleeve body 20, one of which is associated with each of the adaptors I4. It will be noted that each of the sleeves 20 may be removably attached to one of the adaptors Ill by simply inserting the sleeve portion I6 into the bore I5, as is best shown in Figure 3. Thereupon, by engaging the detent I9 of the catch Il in a suitable recess 2I provided in the sleeve 20, the sleeve will be lirmly, yet releasably, connected to the associated adaptor.
One of the sleeves 2E] carries a glazing sphere or a ball 22, and this being formed with a cylindrical shank 23 whereby it may be mounted in the bore 24 Vof the sleeve.
Another of the sleeves 2i] carries a soft eraser 25 and yet another sleeve is provided with a hard eraser 2li. The remaining of the sleeves may carry a suitable brush 21. If desired, the lateral wall of the sleeves 20 may be provided with notched, inturned detents 28, in order to assist in the retention of the erasers, etc., in the sleeves.
The essence of the invention resides in the provision of a holder designated generally by the reference character 29, this being used for liexibly connecting together the aforementioned arms Ii, whereby the accessories mounted at the ends of the arms may be selectively employed.
The holder 29 consists of an elongated sheet of resilient material, this being arcuated medially of its length to provide a substantially tubular socket 30. The end portions of the sheet are secured together in a juxtaposed relationship and constitute what may be referred to as a laterally projecting, flexible web 3|.
The web BI is formed with an aperture 32, the latter dening a further socket for receiving one of the arms I I. The remaining arm is, of course, removably positioned in the aforementioned socket 30 and it will be observed that by virtue of the resilient flexibility of the material from which the holder 29 is formed, the arms I I may be flexed, so to speak, in all directions, as is exemplied in the drawings by the phantom lines 33.
It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly understood from amuse the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is considered unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A holder comprising an elongated sheet of elastic material arcuated medially of its length to provide a substantially tubular socket, the end portions of said sheet being superimposed and secured together and constituting a laterally yprojecting, exible web on said socket, said web being formed with an aperture defining a further socket perpendicularly disposed relative to said rst mentioned socket.
2. A holder for slender rods, said holder comprising an elongated open ended tubular member and an elastic web projecting from one side of said member and disposed longitudinally of said member, said web having an aperture therein.
