In the field of advertising many times it is desirable and advantageous to set forth a product to be sold in the form of an idicating figure or the like therefor. Such figure will more effectively attract the eye of the prospective purchaser if the individual colors thereof are illuminated and the figure made to appear as animated as possible. To this end, a figure, broadly designated by the numeral ID, has been illustrated and takes the form of a parrot or like bird. Consequently the many colors of such figure Ii] should be brought out as clearly as possible.

This figure Ii] is preferably made from a light weight material that is easily cut and molded, and in the instance illustrated, plastic has been found to be most suitable. The figure l0 and guard plate 26 are interconnected by a plurality of bolts or the like 34 having spacers 36 interposed between guard plate 26 and the figure H] to hold the same in spaced apart relationship. The head of the lowermost bolt 34 is disposed within the base portion 24 of body 20 to be entirely hidden from view and the heads of the other bolts 34 are disposed in alignment with the cross member 16 which is semi-circular in cross section, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2.

A substantially Y-shaped notch 38 is cut in the guard plate 26 directly in alignment and behind the figure H1 and a reinforcing bar 40, disposed in transverse relationship to this notch 38, serves to maintain guard plate 25 in a substantially fiat rigid condition.

A pair of L- shaped brackets 42 and 44 each having one leg thereof affixed to the normally rearmost face of the guard plate 26 by bolts or the like 56, support a pair of lamps 48 and 50 respectively. These lamps 48 and 50, as well as a lamp 52 mounted within the base 24, are confront face of bird l0. 1 lamp 52 will direct its rays of light upwardly and neoted to a suitable source of electrical energy (not shown) by means of lead wires 54.

The lamp $8 is elongated and disposed in alignment with the lowermost and narrowest portion of the notch 38, whereas the lamp 50 is arranged above lamp 48 and in alignment with the wider portion of notch 38 formed in the guard plate 26. Lamp 52 is mounted upon a bracket 56 secured directly to the bottom plate 30 of hollow base 24 immediately below and in front of figure ID.

A front panel 58 forming a part of the base 24 and extending forwardly of the rim 22 defining the opening within body 20, is also formed from initially transparent material having a coating '80 of paint or the like to render the sam translucent and having areas covered with a rela-- tively light colored paint to define advertising indicia 62.

In operation, when the lamps 48, 50 and 52 are provision of laterally turned flanges 64 extending toward'the figure In throughout the entire periphery of notch 38. It is preferable that the coating60 for the base 24 be of a color contrasting with the color of rim 22 and main portion of body 20 and also that the front face of guard plate 26, be painted in suitable contrasting colors.

.When the device formed as above described is placed in operation and disposed in a suitable position where the same can. be e y seen by he sented and the desired attractive and extremely noticeable figure ill, will undoubtedly divert the attention of such observers.

It is to be understood that the figure l0 herein shown is for illustrative purposes only and that the broad concepts herein set forth may well be used for various and numerous advertising mediums. Details of construction may also be varied without departing from the spiritof this invention or scope of the appended'claims.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. An advertising device of the character described comprising a figure of translucent material; a hollow body of opaque material partially surrounding said figure; illuminating means for said figure disposed between a portion of the body and one face of said figure; means for confining certain rays of light from said illuminating means within the marginal edges of said figure; and means for redirecting additional rays of light emanating from said illuminating means against the opposite face of the figure.
