TRANSPARENT DISPLAY NECKTIE PRESS Filed July 1, 1946 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented July 4, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TRANSPARENT DISPLAY NECKTIE PRESS Arnold M. Smith, Minneapolis, Minn.
Application July 1, 1946, Serial No. 680,650
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to improvements in neck tie presses and has for its object to provide attractive and highly efficient means for displaying and holding neck ties in a novel manner in which they are pressed and keep their shape.
To the above end the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention-like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the improved neck tie press in which two neck ties are held.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a view corresponding to Fig. 2 with the exception that the neck tie press is open and some parts are sectioned on the line 33 of Fi 1.
The neck tie press includes an inner leaf 4, an intermediate leaf and an outer leaf 6. These leaves 4, 5 and 6 are upwardly bowed and snugly fit the one upon the other. The inclination of the front of the neck tie press is more gradual than the back thereof. The outer leaf 6, at its rear bottom edge is shaped to form a hinge member I in the form of a hook in which the rear bottom edges of the inner leaf 4 and intermediate leaf 5, loosely and removably rest. Each leaf 4, 5 and 6 is formed of transparent plastic or other rigid material.
A pair of separable fasteners 8 connect the inner leaf 4 and the outer leaf 6 at their front bottom edge portions and hold the same tightly drawn onto the intermediate leaf 5. A large intermediate notch 9 is formed in the front bottom edge portion of the intermediate leaf 5 and a like notch I0 is formed in the rear bottom edge portion of said intermediate leaf.
The neck tie press as shown is designed to hold two neck ties X, as shown; to place the neck tie X in the neck tie press, said press is first opened as shown in Fig. 3. The outer end portion of the neck tie X is laid transversely over the intermediate leaf 5, from the front to the rear thereof. Next the intermediate portion of said neck tie is inserted through the rear notch l0, laid transversely over the inner leaf 4, from the rear to the front thereof, through the front notch 9. Finally the inner end portion of the neck tie X is laid transversely over the intermediate leaf 5, from the front to the rear thereof, adjacent to the front end portion thereof. In other words, the neck tie X is looped around the intermediate leaf 2 5 with the end portions thereof extending past each other on the upper side of said leaf.
After the neck ties X have been placed in the neck tie press, the intermediate leaf 5 is lowered onto the inner leaf 4 with portions of the neck ties X therebetween. Next the outer leaf 6 is lowered onto the intermediate leaf 5 with portions of the neck ties X therebetween. Finally the leaves 4 and 6 are connected by the separable fasteners 8 and the neck ties held pressed between the leaves 4, 5 and 6.
Obviously, the neck ties X are not only attractively displayed in the neck tie press but are held so that they are pressed and retain their shape.
From what has been said, it will be understood that the invention described is capable of modifications as to details of construction and arrangement within the scope of the invention here-- in disclosed and claimed.
What I claim is:
A tie display and press in the form of a relatively high ridge comprising a base leaf, a transparent cover leaf and an intermediate leaf, said leaves being substantially identical, the one with the other and nested, the tops of the leaves being in the form of concentric arcs of circles, the fronts of the leaves being gradually inclined and outwardly bowed, the backs of the leaves being steep and outwardly bowed, the fronts and backs of the leaves being substantially tangential to the tops thereof, the cover leaf being hingedly attached to the base leaf, the intermediate leaf having notches in its longitudinal front and back edge portions to serve as tie passageways, and a separable fastener connecting the cover leaf to the base leaf and clamping the intermediate leaf therebetween.
