"2 ."Claims. 1 This invention relates to window constructions. An objectof this invention is to provide anallweather window construction embodying spaced sliding panels providing selectively either astorm window, a normal window, or a screened window opening.

The abutting edges of the respective pairs of panels 2!, 26, 28, and 3!! are provided with interengaging means for sealing the panels in their closed position and locking means for fastening the edge abutting panels in the closed position. On the inner edge of the panels on one side of the center bar 34 there is provided an H-shaped channel member 35 having one pair of arms fixed to the vertical edge of the respective panel and the other pair of arms extending inwardly toward the corresponding panel on the other side of the bar 34. The members 35 are formed with a cutout or notch on their ends whereby the free arms may extend past the center bar 34. The inner edges of the corresponding panels are adapted to engage between the free arms of the member 35 in their closed position for sealing the joint between the correspondirig panel sections.
When the various panels are slid into their respective housings, the inner edge of each protrudes slightly from the inner edge of the housvertically offset positions relative to the handle 36 on the adjacent panel whereby any one panel 4 may be moved without moving any of the others.
It is desirable to lock certain panels, as the glass panels 26 and 28 in their closed position to provide air conditioned or heated rooms, the space between the panels 26 and 28 providing a dead air space or insulation.
In order to lock the respective glass panels 26 and 28 closed, one panel of each pair, having the H-channel is provided with a transverse locking pin 37 inter-connecting the free arms of the channel. The opposite panel, not having an inner edge strip, is formed with a rectangular cutout portion 33 opening along its inner edge adjacent the pin 37. A solid plate 39 covers the cutout 38 on the outer side of the panel and an imier U-shaped plate 40 covers the U-shaped edge of the cut-out 38. The plates 39 and M are fastened together and to the panel, as 28, on opposite sides thereof by rivets M or other suitable fastening means. An L-shaped lever 42 is rockably'mounted between the plates 39 and 40 in the cut-out 38 by a pin M extending across the cutout 38 between the plates 39 and 40. The lever 52 is supported with a substantially horizontal arm extending inwardly from between the inner edges of the plates 38 and 40 to engage between the free arms of the member 35 and is formed with a downwardly opening hook 45 which is engageable with the lock pin 31.
The fulcrum M of the lever 42 is at a level above the lock pin 3'! so the lever 42 is gravitatingl urged to locking position at all times and only the upper portion of the vertical arm is exposed in the cut-out 38 through the U-shaped plate 40. The inner edge of the hook 45 is beveled or rounded so that as the panels come together the beveled edge rises on the pin 3'! until the hook falls into locking position. To unlock the lever 42 it is necessary only to move the upper portion of the lever 42 outwardly while pressing the panels outwardly and apart, one from the other.
The assembly [0 may, when installed, be sealed around the edges by weather strips 46 and 41 which are fixed to the frame members l9 and 20.
To protect the edges of the glass panels 26 and 28, strips of felt 48, or other suitable soft material may be secured in the members 35 where the glass edge of 'the panels engage therein. Felt bumpers 39 are fixed to the inner side of the frame members !2 to provide a soft stop for each of the sliding panels in their fully opened position.
Drain holes 50 are provided in the lower outer edge of each of the rails in order that any condensation or other moisture will be free to drain from the assembly to prevent any subsequent rust or other deleterious effects of water in the rails.
By the use of glass panels of this type, wherein the use of trim around the edge of the glass panels is eliminated, a larger amount of light may pass through the windows when the panels are in their closed positions.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. An all weather window construction comprising upper and lower guides, each of said guides including a horizontal U-shaped elongated channel member formed with vertically extending side legs and a connecting bight portion, a plurality of nested angle members, the outermost panels slidably engaging said vertical spaced apart angle legs and said vertical legs of said second channel.
2. The construction of claim 1 having the lower guide member thereof provided with drain holes through said vertical legs of said angle 15 members adjacent the bottom thereof and 6 through one of said vertical side legs of said see 0nd channel member adjacent the bottom thereof whereby rain water collecting in said guide member may be drained off.
