ApplicationiAugust 5, 1948, Serial'No. 42,697 (01. 2-206) My invention relates to face masks and more particularly to aplural or double faced mask adapted to be worn over a 'persons face and suitably supported such as by ear engaging means or members, ties or an elastic band "extending over the ears and around the back of the head and having aplurality, preferably two, of face portions or masks in different" or contrasting caricatures, facialexpressionsor grotesque characteristics, such as smiling, laughing, happy or 0111- erwise on one face or sideQand sad, crying, disconsolate or otherwise on the other'face or side.

The invention also comprehends adouble faced mask comprising a backing simulating or having the outline or shape of a personshead and a plurality of "masks or face portions of substantially the same shape but with different or com trasting facial expressions thereon atthe front and each scored or foldable vertically at the center and having eye openings, and a nose opening" or portion through which the nose of the wearer may project tofacilitate' support aswell as permit proper. breathing, each face portion, another face portion or other face portions'beingsecured at or to the front of'the backing at or over half sections of each at eachsideof the fold line, so that any one of said face portions may be exposed to view by folding back the-other face portions against the backing for selectively and interchangeably usingany one of said contrasting masks or face portions.

With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists inthe arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the plural or double faced mask of the present invention comprises a base or backing l consisting of a main blank or sheet of relatively stiff but bendable material such as cardboard, heavy paper,

projections or extensions forming-ears I l.

, 2 having'theshape oroutlineof a persons head looking at the front or face and including side 'Disposed at the front'of the backing 10,-are a plurality, preferably'two, of masks or face portions 12 and 13 consisting of auxiliary foldable "or hinged sheets of 'the same outline or shape and of the same or'similar material as themain backing or sheet "M and having corresponding ear forming side projections or extensions H.

'Masks'orface portions l2 and I3 are printed or ornamented with different or contrasting facial "expressions thereon at the front, and each scored or foldable vertically at the center as indicated by the fold lines [5 from top to bottombisecting the same from'the'top of the head through the bottom-of the chin. 'Allof the blanks or'sheets ill, i2 and [3 are provided with registering eye openings l6 toexpose the eyes of the wearer and provide for vision, while a nose receiving opening or portion l1 is provided centrally therebeneath and therebetween, through which the nose of the wearer may project to facilitate support as well as permit proper breathing.

The masks cloth or other suitable material simulating or B5 or face portions i2- and I3 are of difierent or "contrastingcaricatures, "facial 'expressionsor grotesque characteristics, the mask l2 being shown by way of example as sad, disconsolate, or sour andthe mask l3 as smiling, laughing or'happy, although anyidiflerent'or contrasting characters or characteristics maybe depicted thereon.

At one side of the fold line l5, the left hand side or half of the sheet of mask I2 is secured, attached or anchored to the corresponding left half of the front or face portion of the backing sheet H! as seen in Figures 3 and 4, in any suitable manner flat against and in permanent association therewith, while the other portion or half of the sheet or mask l2 at the other side of the fold line I5 is free of backing sheet 10 to fold fiat against either side or half thereof At the other side of the fold line IS, the other or right hand side or half of the sheet of mask I3 as also seen in Figures 3 and 4, is similarly secured or anchored to the corresponding right half of the front or face portion of the backing sheet In likewise fiat against and in permanent association therewith so that the outstanding in-- ner portions or free halves or sides of both masks or face portions 12 and I3 are hinged and may swing or fold on the fold lines l5. 3 halves or sides, namely, the right hand side or half of one and the left hand side or half of the other, are secured together back to back, flat one against the other the same as the other halves thereof are secured to backing l0, such as by adhesive, with the eye and nose openings l6 and I! all registering.

In this way, the hinged portions may be folded against one half of mask [3 as shown in solid lines inl FiQui'e'TB' to expose the mask l2 as seen in Figure 1', oragainst the other half as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 3 to expose the mask l3 as seen in Figure 2.

pluralityof masks with contrasting or different 7 characteristics; facial expressions, caricatures or otherwise,:is provided, each being selectively and apersonvs head,,,a ,pair of sheets each bearing a facsimile of a face and having the same shape as that of, said backing sheet, said lattersheets being folded along the vertical median line thereback relationship to provide a flap pivotally disposed upon said backing sheet whereby said flap when folded flat against said backing sheet in one direction will expose one facsimile of a face, and when folded in the other direction will expose another facsimile of a face.

A face mask comprising a backing sheet, a pair of facsimile bearing sheets each formed to conform to the shape of said backing sheet and folded along the vertical median line thereof, portions of said facsimile bearing sheets on opposite sides of the fold lines thereof being secured "*to the front surface of said backing sheet, the

other portions of said facsimile bearing sheets being secured together in back-to-back relation- I ship toform'a pivotable flap whereby, when said .flapispivoted in one direction flat against said backing sheet, one of said facsimile bearing sheets .will be exposed, and when said flap is pivoted in the other direction, the other of said facsimile bearing sheets will be exposed. I

A face mask comprising a backing sheet qshaped to conform to the full-face outline of a persons head, a central nose receiving aperture formed insaid backing sheet, a pair of facsimile bearing sheets each having a shape conforming to that ofsaid backing sheet and formed with a .central nose receiving aperture, said facsimile bearing sheets being folded along the vertical median lines thereof aportion of each of said facsimile bearing sheets on opposite sides of the fold lines thereof being secured to the front surface of said backing sheet, the other portions of said facsimile bearing sheets being secured together in back-to-back relationship to form a pivotable fl p, and means secured to the opposite side edges of said backing sheet and of said facsimile bearing sheet portions carried thereby adapted to support the mask on a persons face whereby, one of said facsimile bearing sheets will 4 be exposed when the flap is pivoted in one direcof the portionson the opposite sides offsaid medition against said backing sheet, and the other 'of said facsimile bearing sheets will beexposed in the oppositedirection.
