Opening or feed intake '29 preferably is closed as by the arcuately shaped sliding door 32 which is interfittingly mounted with respect to the side wall of tube 25, i. e., concentrically disposed with respect thereto whereby a locking bar or rod 33 for the door is effective in tightly sealing and holding the door in perfect alignment with the tube in any position from full closed to full open. To this end, rod 33 is pivotally supported at the floor or platform level as by brackets 34 and 35 "and is provided with an ofi'set central portion 36 taken respectively along the lines 5 -5 and 1-1 tal discharge tubes taken along the line l0l0 of Figure 9, parts of the elevator tube being shown in elevation.
Referring now to thedrawings wherein like characters of reference denote like parts throughout the several views, and more particularly to Figure-1, there is shown thereon, a platform l5 which is supported from the ground as by the uprights l6.
Supported on platform I5 is a sweet feedmixer generally designated by the numeral l1 and having a feed receiving hopper l8 which is interconnected as by the longitudinal tube IS with the dry feed mixer generally designated and also supported on platform [5. Mixer I1 is a device for mixing the feeds, or cereals, or the like, received from mixer 20 with molasses, syrups or the like, all for the specific purposes and in the specific manner and by the specific means set forth in particularity in the aforesaid patent to T. H. Riza and reference may be had thereto for further details of construction and operation of a sweet feed mixer suitable for operation with the dry feed mixer 20.
Mixer 20 comprises a material receiving chamber or tank having the upper cylinder or drum 2| supported above the platform I5 as by the plurality of uprights or posts 22. Drum 2| preferably is provided with a plurality of inspection plates, windows, or the like 23 which also may be used to pipe feed from the dust collector into the tank direct from the mill.
Drum 2| of the tank has a funnel or inverted half inches below the platform and is provided with a feed receiving opening 29 which extends substantially the full length of the lower side wall portion thereof below the platform.
Tube section is closed at the bottom by a base plate and a chute or hopper 3! preferably is welded to the base plate and tube and extends to an opening, not shown, in the platform through which the grain is admitted to the chuteandwhich is yieldably urged against the door by gravity acting thereon, the point of contact of the ofiset portion with the door being above the pivot axis of the rod whereby the ofiset portion in response to any tendency of the door to slide downward from a pre-set position follows the bar 33 acts like a toggle and is effective to lock the door in any of the many positions to which it may be adjusted according to the desired rate of feed intake to the elevator tube.
Door 32 and lock 33 preferably are provide with handle portions 31 and 38 respectively to facilitate sliding and unlocking operations thereof.
Tube section 26 is telescopically supported in tube section 21 so that the distance between the at lower end of section 23 and the upper end of the tube section 25 at the junction of cone or funnel 24 therewith may be varied as much as twenty-four inches in order to provide an optimum opening between the elevator tube and the "tank according to the character of the feed to be circulated therebetween.
Tube section '26 is adjustably secured to section 21 for sliding movement therein by means of the elongated angle irons 39 and 40, the lower ends of which are secured to section 23 in diametrically opposed relation as by cottered pins 4| and 42. Angle irons 39 and 40 are slidably received in the slide guides 43 which are secured to the outer telescoping member or tube section 21 as by being welded thereto. Section 21, in turn, is secured as by the horizontally disposed brackets 45 and 4,6 to the drum 2| concentrically and coaxially therewith.
Angle irons 39 and 40 serve as racks for coaction respectively with the gear segments 41 and 48 which are secured to a shaft 49 for rocking movement therewith to elevate or lower the angle irons, as the case may be. To this end, the angle irons preferably are provided with a plurality of apertures 50 which serve as teeth for coaction with the teeth of the gear segments.
Shaft 49 is journaled in a pair of brackets 5i and 52 which are secured as by welding to the tube section 21.
Shaft 49 is coupled as at 53 to an extension shaft 54 which is journaled near the outer end thereof in a bracket, not shown, secured to drum 2!. A sprocket 55 is secured to shaft 54 and an endless chain 56 is trained thereabout and also about a drive sprocket 51 to which an operating handle 53 is secured, the sprocket 51 being journaled on funnel 24 in any suitable manner, not shown.

The tube I9 also comprises an inclined under portion 61 for connection to tube 21 as at 68, thereby to complete the sealed connection or communication between the tubes.
An opening 89 is provided in tube section 21 at this connection to provide the discharge port for the mixed ingredients in the tank, and the rate of discharge through this openingis controlled by the arcuately formed gate III which is i hingedly secured in matching engagement with the tube wall surrounding opening 68 by means of a rod II to which it is secured for rocking movement, rod II being journaled in suitable openings therefore provided in plate 65 and 66.
An extension shaft I2 is coupled to rod II as at I3 and this shaft is suitably journaled in any convenient manner, not shown, on the drum 2|. The extended end of shaft I2 has an arm I4 secured thereto and this arm in turn, has an elongated depending handle I5 pivotally secured thereto as at I6. Thus, by raising or lowering handle I5 which is within easy reach of an operator on the platform, gate I0 may be opened or shut to any desired degree, the gate being held in the adjusted position as by locking the handle to the cottered pin 11, the pin being first inserted through the proper one of the plurality of apertures I8 provided in the handle.
An inspection plate I9 preferably is provided in plate 84 and a horizontal conveyor screw 88 is mounted in tube I9 and has the shaft 8| thereof journaled in plate 65 and extended outwardly of drum 2I wherein it is journaled as at 82 to receive a pulley 83.
Vertical screw conveyor 28 has a shaft 84 which is journaled as at 85 in the top plate 86 for the tank and extend beyond plate 89 t receive a pair of pulleys 8! and 88. Pulley 88 is connected as by an endless belt 89 to pulley 84 for screw 88, suitable idler pulleys 90 being employed to facilitate the driving connection therebetween.
Pulley 8! is connected by an endless belt 9| to a pulley 82 carried on the shaft 93 of an electric motor 94 which is supported as by the brackets 95 on drum 2I, both screw conveyors 28 and 88 being driven by the same motor 94.
A slinger 99 may be detachably secured to screw 28 to free the screw of soft feeds and may be removed when mixing grains.
From the foregoing, the operation of the mixing apparatus disclosed should now be clearly apparent. However, it should be briefly stated that the feeds to be mixed in dry mixer 28 are supplied thereto by way of chute 28 from whence the feed enters the elevator tube through opening 29 therein, door 32 being adjusted according to the type of feed and rate of intake desired.
The feed is elevated and mixed in the elevator tube by the vertical conveyor 28 as the same robeing adjrustedztop provide theproperv size ofopen ing,63; for the particularfeed: beinggmixed.

of discharge of the feed. As the discharge operation nears completion, tubular section 26 is lowered gradually to close opening 63, thereby to facilitate complete cleaning out of the materials in the mixing chamber.
. The nicety of th arrangement of racks 38, 48 and the coacting gear segments 41, 48 in operating while surrounded by feed will be appreciated by those skilled in the art.
Whereas apparatus has been provided which is well adapted to fulfill the aforestated objects of the invention, various modifications in the construction, operation and arrangement of parts may obviously be made and are contemplated and the right is expressly reserved to make such changes and modifications as fall within the spirit and scope ofthe invention defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as my invention is:
l. A dry feed mixer comprising an upright mixing tank having an enlarged upper portion, a
restricted lower tubular portion and an intermediate funnel portion connecting the adjacent ends of the upper and lower tank portions, an elevator tube including an upper elevator tube section, means supporting the upper levator tube section in the upper tank portion and in alignment with the lower tank portion, an adjustable elevator tube section extending between the lower end of upper elevator tube section and the upper end of the lower tank portion and telescopically engaging the upper elevator tube section and contacting the lower tank portion in one of its adjusted positions, said lower tank portion forming a lower section of the elevator tube and having a valve controlled inlet for dry feed to be mixed, a driven screw conveyor in the elevator tube and extending to adjacent the remote ends thereof for elevating the dry feed to the open top of the elevator tube for discharge into the tank, an outlet conduit communicating with and extending from the upper elevator tube section, an adjustable closure regulating the discharge from the upper elevator tube to the outlet conduit, and manually operated means connected to the adjustable elevator tube section to raise said section for adjustably spacing its lower end from the lower tank portion.

A mixing apparatus of the character disclosed comprising, a tank having an upper cylindrical portion, a lower tube portion of smaller diameter and an intermediate converging portion, an elevator tube including said tube portion and a pair of upper and lower telescoping tube sections arranged coaxially with respect to said tube portion, said upper tube section being secured to said tank, means adjustable at will for slidably moving the lower telescoping tube section from a position in which its lower end engages the upper end of said tube portion into a 7: v desired spaeed relation with respect to the upper end of said tube portion according to the type of feed to be mixed in the dry mixer, said tube portion having a closed lower end and an inlet opening in its side wall, a sliding closure for said opening, means for retaining the closure in a plurality of positions to completely close, partially close or fully expose the inlet opening, an outlet conduit having an inlet end communicating with said upper tube section, an adjustable gate to completely close, partially close or fully expose the inlet endof the outlet conduit, means adjustable at will for adjusting said gate to a predetermined open position thereby to provide a desiredrate of discharge from the upper tube section, "and a driven vertical screw conveyor in said elevator tube.
