The invention comprehends a parti tion and; base thereior, fonthehead areas of beds.
It is a well-known fact that occupants of a double bed arefiat timeabothered by the irregular breath exhalationsoi theippartnersrthat one or the other may have a co'ld'f thfsn s,',be;subiect to coughing spells orthe plain, everyday unpleasant breath that'rnany humans-are subject to. Additionally, one mayto read, the:-;other mayv not, and, it .is. then desirable .1110 have .a partition. to,.excludc. the. maximum-might. and have a measure of privacy.
An object of my invention is the provision of a hinged panel and base therefor which can be positioned at the head of a bed, the panel moved to and locked in vertical position when desired,
and folded in parallelism with the support-flat, Y
at will.
Another object of the invention is to provide a wall-like partition to separate the head regions of a bed, to keep the breathing areas of the occupants separate.
Another object comprehends a partition which can with ease and dispatch be changed from a vertical to a horizontal position.
A further object is a partition and base therefor which can be positioned under the pillows of a bed, will not be unsightly, or otherwise mar the appearance thereof.
Another and important object is the provision of a supported partition which includes therein a recess to fit over and accommodate the single topmost sheet of a bed and the superimposed blankets thereof, if the latter are in use.
Briefly described, the partition and base or support includes a sheet or blank of relatively rigid material, upon which is centrally and hingedly mounted a member adapted to be moved to vertical locked position and reversely to a position in parallelism with the support or base. On one lower edge of the partition I provide a recessvor cutout portion for accommodating the confronting or meeting edge of the top sheet and, as the weather may dictate, the meeting edges of the superimposed blankets.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a bed with the partition and support positioned with the latter underlying the pillows and the partition projecting vertically therebetween.
Fig. 2 is a top view of the invention illustrating the winglike conformation of the support and the forwardly projecting extension of the partition.
Fig. 3 is a top view showing the partition c01- lapsed in parallelism with the support.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the partition and support.
Fig. S depic PM m ntion .BfikilQE-l.
support at the sides of the base together with the tip 9 to prevent tipping forwardly of the partition hereinafter described.
Contiguous the lower edge 14 of the partition I I opposite to that on which hinges ID are mounted, and on top of base 6, I afiix a molding [5 which abuts said lower edge and affords a snug fit when the partition I l is in upstanding position. On the inner or rear of molding I5 is provided a snap fastener I6 cooperating with catch I'I attached to the partition for detachably securing member ll vertically positioned.
When it is desired to drop partition II to flat position superimposed on base 6, fastener I6 is depressed and said partition lowered assuming the position shown in Fig. 3.
As admirably depicted in Fig. 1 the bed partition base 6 may be placed beneath the pillows and when in use, with member H vertical, the sheet and superimposed blankets may be extended a with their upper edges drawn across the top of the bed and accommodated under the forward extension II in recess [3 thereunder. The extension I 2, forming part of the partition II, afiords the maximum desirable privacy in the head region of the bed, and recess l3 precludes any undue disturbance of the bed coverings.
, The partition and support are preferably fabricated from such relatively stifi materials as plywood, plastics or any other materials which might have the desired structural characteristics. The invention may be decorated, as by painting, veneering, or a covering which would aesthetically blend with and enhance the decorative ensemble of the bed and bedroom. Plastics, for example, may be furnished in different colors, to merge with the room color scheme.
When the partition is not in use, as previously explained, or in flat position, it is positioned under the pillows and when the bed is made, in the daytime, it is out of sight.
I reserve the right to make such changes and modifications as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
i i iewt hsw ne nillq s-s sye I claim:
1. A partition and base therefore for the head areas of beds including a base having a central portion with wing-like palms extending in opposite directions therefrom, said central portion having a projection provided with a tip, a partition including a body portion having one edge hinged to the central portion of the base, said partition having a forward extension projecting outwardly from the body portion, and means for locking the partition in a vertical position, the said forward extension of the partition projecting forwardly and outwardl above said tip when the partition is locked in vertical position.
2. A partition and base therefor for'the head areas of beds, including a base having a central portion with wing-like palms extending in opposite directions therefrom, said central portion having a projection provided with a tip, partition including a body portion having one edge hinged to said central portion of the-base, said partition having a forward extension projecting outwardly from thebody portion, an arcuate recess between the tip and the forward extension, and means for releasably holding the partition in vertical position.
3. A partition and base therefor for head areas of beds,':comprising abase having a central portion with a pair of wings extending from opposite sides of the central portion, said central porsingle blank of material having a central portion with wings extending therefrom, said central portion having a projection, a partition having one edge hinged to the central portion of the base, said partition having a forward extension projecting outwardly from the body portion, an arcuate recess between the one edge and the forward extension for accommodating the top ends of bed covering.
