This invention relates to improvements in aphotographers appliance and particularly to. devices of the class designed for use in supporting infants in the proper position in the operation of taking profmsionalphotographs.
neof the main objects of the invention is to provide an infant poser which may be securely hungover the back-rest of a common chair;
Another object of the invention is to provide an infant poser for holding a baby in the proper position during the operation of' taking a photograph.
Still another object of the invention is to provide an infant poser with an adjustable table for supporting a baby steadily; so that it can be photographed clearly and accurately.
Another object is to provide a device of the character described which constitutes a rigid truss composed of an upright and a table connected byadjusting means and an L-shaped' top member for retaining the whole structure on the back of a chair without swinging and vibration.
Another object is toprovide a device or the type set forth which supports an infant securely leaving free and unobstructed views thereof from the top and from three sides.
' Yet another objectof the invention is to provide a baby poser with an adjustable table for supporting a baby which can be adjusted to any desirable angle.
Another object of the-invention is to provide an infant poserwith an adjustable table which is provided with a movable crotch-block or saddle for additi'onaliy retaining a baby when taking a photograph.
A further object or the invention is to provide a device for posing infants which may be compactly folded up and conveniently stored away when not in use.
Further objects of this invention are to pro vide a device of the class set forth which is simple in its construction and arrangements, durable and eflieient inits use, readily hung over the back of a common chair and inexpensive to manufacture.
the accomplishment of these and such other objects as, may hereafter appear the invention consists of the novei construction, combination. and arrangement of parts herein. sp cifically described and illustrated in-the accompany?- ing drawing, wherein is shown, an. embodiment of the present invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims-- hereunto appended.
In the drawing wherein like numerals of ref-- erence. designate corresponding parts throughout the. several. views,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an infant poser made in accordance with the invention, showing 2 the rear portion or the device and hung over the back-of a chair represented in dots and dashes.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of an infant poser same as Figure. 1, showing the front andthe table portions of the device, the stationary up right. portion being hidden by the supportingchair drawn in dots and dashes.
Figure 3 is aside view or the device as hung over the. back of a chair, the chair being indicated dot and dash lines.
Figure. 4. shows a plan view of the position adjusting means by means of which. the table may :be adjusted;
Referring now to the drawing, my improved infant poser consists; in general, of a stationary portion [:8 and an adjustable portion H.
The stationary portion II which is design-ed to: be placed. over the back of: a common chair i2 comprises an elongated; preferably rectangular upright member II, the upper edge ll of which joins a top member ii of substantially L-shaped cross-section.v The latter extends beyond the edges la and "not said upright member 113.. The L-shaped top. member t5 forms with the upright member I3 a. rigid" inverted U? having unequal legs.
The horizontal top piece id. or said L-shaped top member i5 is provided with any elongated head 20; which slightly extends outwardly from the upper edge is of the depending leg 2| of member l5.
A wedge shaped elm-support 22, preferably of the same. length. as the top member I5, is removably attached to said top-member W by means of dowel pins 23, or otherwise.
Hingediy mounted to the upper edge M or said top member [:82 and to said! upright member I23 is an elongated, rectangular infant supporting table 21', which be! adjusted. to: any suitable angle relative to aforementioned 'topand uprightmembars.
In order to adjust the table 24 it is only: re:- quired to loosen the thumb headed screw-25 of the table adjusting device 2a which releases. the telescoping rod 21 from its. hold in the tubular extension 28 of the T-shaped swivel head: 2!. This swivel head :11 is supported at both ends between a pair of angle pieces 30', secured to the under portion of said upright member i3, and swivelly held by means. of" a bolt or pin 3.1,.
The telescoping rod 2"! of the adjusting device is secured in a T-shaped'swivelhead 32, which is supported at both ends between a pair ofangle pieces: 30. and swivelly held in position by a pin '31. The upright member is together with table 24. and theconnecting adjusting device- 26' form a triangular structureor a trusswhichprovides perfect: rigidity.
Arranged centrailyr through the. table 2% is. an elongated slot 35 which serves as; a guide for the The crotch-block 36 consists of a block 38 having at its top a curved portion 39. This block 36 is provided at its bottom 46 with a threaded stud M which passes through the slot 35 of table 24. A washer 42 and a wing-nut 43 are supplied for the stud 4| in order to retain the crotch-block 36 in any suitable position.
Of course, all sharp edges on said block or saddle are rounded and soft pads (not shown) may be attached to the curved portion 39, so as to comfortably support the crotch of an infant arranged for posing on the device.
The saddle 31, similarly secured to the table 2| as said crotch-block 36, may be used to form a seat for the occupant, especially when the occupant lies on its back.
In the use of the device for photographic purposes, a blanket may be spread over the table so that no parts of the device will be exposed.
When using this device by professional photographers in taking pictures of infants, the infant may be placed on its stomach upon the table 24 with its crotch between the crotch-block 36 and its hands over the arm support 22, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. In this case, the photographer focuses the camera from the front of the device, showing only the upper portion and the hands of the infant in the picture.
The infant may be seated on the saddle 3! with its back upon the table 24, in this case the photographer focuses the camera from the rear of the device showing all of the infant in the picture or any desired portion thereof.
2. An infant posing device of the kind described comprising an upright structure adapted to be hung over the back of a chair, said structure comprising an elongated rectangular upright member having secured to itsupper portion a top member of L-shaped cross section forming with said upright structure an inverted U-shaped member; an elongated, rectangular table hingedly attached to the upper, horizontal portion of said upright member and means for adjusting the angular position of said table with respect to said structure.
