Description

May 23, 1950 P. cAYo 2,508,491
CLOTHESLINE Filed April 3, 1946 IN VENTOR.
PETER C A YO ATTEI R N EYB Patented May 23, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My present invention relates to an improved clothes line and more particularly to the type of clothes line embodying a conventional pair of spaced lines more or less permanently supported by a pair of spaced supports The invention broadly relates to the means for supporting cross lines on the conventional spaced lines, and the means for maintaining these cross lines in proper position.
By the use of the clothes line of my invention, more eflicient use of the conventional clothes line arrangement will be made, and in the same general space required for spaced parallel lines on their supports, the line footage may be increased by as much as fifty per cent.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a clothes line embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cross line clip.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the line spacer Figure 4 is a top plan view of the spacer.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like numerals indicate like parts, I have illustrated a line support I comprising a wooden post or other suitable post, of which there are normally two. A cross tree 2 is suitably mounted on the post, and between the spaced supporting posts I and the cross trees 2 are illustrated the conventional spaced clothes lines 3 and 4.
Adapted for mounting onthe clothes lines 3 and 4 I employ the spacing clips 5 having spaced holes 6 therein. These clips are fashioned of thin flexible metal and are secured upon the lines by passing the clothes line through the spaced opening. The flexible character of the clips will retain them in adjusted position upon the lines and the same flexibility will permit the movement of the clips along the lines to the desired locations.
Cross lines 1 designed to be placed at substantially right angles to the lines 3 and 4 provide additional clothes line footage, and these lines 1 are removable and adjustable by means of the I snap clips 8. These clips 8 are also fashioned of thin flexible metallic material and are formed with inturned ends 9 for the engagement and retention of the ends of the crossed lines, and the clips 8 are formed with rounded hooks 10 on the opposite ends. The hooks may be easily attached and detached from the main clothes lines 3 and 4 and the clips are normally hooked to the main lines within the space embraced by the spacing clips 5.
The clips 5 will confine the cross line hooks to a relatively smaller section of the main clothes lines and will prevent the shifting of the cross lines to maintain the proper space therebetween.
It should be apparent from the above description that the invention comprises simple eilicient means for enhancing and enlarging existing clothes line structures, and the devices of my invention are inexpensive to make, and are durable and easy to use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A clothes line comprising spaced parallel lines, cross lines connecting said parallel lines, hooked clips on the ends of said cross lines for attachment to the parallel lines, and spacing clips formed with spaced line receiving apertures on the parallel lines for confining the longitudinal movement of the hooked clips.
PETER CAYO.
