BOBBY PIN OPENER Filed Jan. 23. 1948 I 11 1 01; for
' r z A 1 11 1 I Attoeys Patented May 9, 1950 UNITED STATES PTENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in openers for bobby pins and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved bobby pin opener that is small and compact in structure and which may be conveniently worn upon a users finger.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a ring type bobby pin opener including novel and improved means carried by the same for holding and retaining a plurality of bobby pins relative to the same.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a bobby pin holder that is extremely neat and attractive in appearance and which is easily manipulatable for opening bobby pins in a convenient manner.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a bobby pin opener that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted. for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the present invention applied to a users finger fo holding a group of bobby pins;
Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the manner in which the present invention is used for opening bobby pins; and,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the present bobby pin opener, and with parts broken away and shown in section.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment, the numeral l represents a substantially diamond shaped base element having rounded corner portions and an upstanding peripheral flanged portion l2.
Fixedly secured to the base member in any suitable manner is a substantially diamond shaped retainer or holding plate it of magnetic material having a preferably flat outer face. The plate I l is elongated and its opposite extreme ends constitute the magnetic poles.
Rigidly secured to opposite corners l8 and i8 of the base member ill or forming an integral part of the base member, is a pair of outwardly extending arcuate straps 20 and 22 having overlapping end portions 24 and 26 which frictionally engage each other.
The numeral 28 represents a pair of oppositely arranged, arcuate, undulated bobby pin engagin members of magnetic material which are secured to each other and the ends of which are rigidly secured to the opposite corners l6 and 18 of the base member II]. It should be noted, that the members 28 are interdigitated and are so arranged as to provide openings 30 that are adapted to receive one free end of a bobby pin or the like 32 to facilitate the spreading of the legs of said bobby pin.
In use, the retainer plate i4 is magnetized so that a plurality of bobby pins or the like may be placed on the plate M in a convenientl accessible position.
It should be noted that when the ends of the hobby pin are inserted through a selected opening formed by the arrangement of the undulated members, the base, being of magnetic material,
will attract the ends of the pins thereto and will tend to prevent lateral movement of the pins and also will tend to retain the pins perpendicular to the base.
In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a ring type bobby pin holder including a base member, a bobby pin spreader comprising a pair of undulated members, said members being oppositely arranged and interdigitated to provide a plurality of openings for receiving the open end of a bobby pin, said members being fixed to said base member and having portions spaced from said base member.
2. A bobby pin opener comprising an elongated base member of magnetic material adapted to attract and hold a plurality of bobby pins, and means carried by said base member for receiving and retaining one end of a bobby pin relative thereto, said last named means including a pair of undulated members, said members being oppositely arranged and interdigitated to provide a plurality of openings for receiving the open end of a bobby pin, said members being fixed to said base member and having portions overlying said base member whereby the lower ends of pins received in said openings will be attracted to the base member, tending to prevent lateral movement of the pins and to retain the pins substan- 15 Number tially perpendicular to the base member.
