This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding windows in the desired raised or open position.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved adjustable device for holding a window sash in the desired raised or open position.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved step by step adjustable device for positioning in a window frame below a vertically adjustable window sash for holding the same in the desired raised or open position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a telescoping step by step adjustable window sash supporting device adapted to be placed between the window frame and the lower surface of a window sash for positively holding the sash at the desired open or raised position.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved window sash supporting device which will be highly efficient in operation, and
relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds. 1
In the accompanying drawings which part of this application,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved adjustable window sash holder shown in operative position between a window frame and the lower sash therefor;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the notched base portion of the adjustable window holding device;
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the lower end of the base portion of the window holding device showing the hinged base plate secured thereto in lowered position;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the base portion of the window holding device showing the step by step adjustabl upper portion in section, with a window sash shown in dotted lines being supported in open position by said device;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the upper portion of the window holding device, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the upper end of said upper portion of the window holding device, showing the sash supporting angle plate pivotally attached to the upper end thereof and moved to its outermost position.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved window sash supporting and holding form 31 device comprising a substantially rectangular vertically extending base portion or member generally designated by the reference numeral I, the same being formed in its forward edge with a plurality of vertically spaced inwardly extending locking notches 2 having fiat seats 3 forming the base portions of said notches.
A pair of base supporting plates 4 and 5 are hinged at 6 and I respectively to the opposite sides of said base member I for extending outwardly at the opposite sides of the lower end of said member I when the same is placed in position upon a window sill 8 of a window frame 9, when the device is to be used for supporting or holding a window sash I0 in the desired raised position.
The U-shape top or upper channel member I I of the sash supporting and holding device is made from metal, and is open on one side, the same being adapted to telescope and slide upwardly and downwardly upon the close fitting base member I, and is formed with the oppositely disposed forwardly extending parallel arms I2 and I3 adjacent its lower end. The arms I2 and I3 are formed with the depending ears I4 which support the pin I5, upon which the double ended pawl or dog I6 is pivotally mounted.
A pin I1 is connected between the outer ends of the arms I2 and I3 and supports one end of a coil. tensioning spring I8, whose opposit end is connected with the pawl or dog I6 for normally urging the inner end thereof in a downward direction to seat on and engage the selected seat 3 forming part of th notches 2 in the base or lower member I of the window holding device.
The upper edges of the parallel arms I2 and I3 are disposed in horizontal flat position and are adapted to underlie and support the window sash frame I 0 when the same is in open or raised position.
A metal angle window sash supporting plate I9 is pivoted upon the pin 20 to one side of the upper channel member II, and is adapted to be swung over the end of said member to underlie the bottom of the window sash frame I0 when the sash is to be supported in open position above the limits of the sash supporting arms I2 and I3, as illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings.
In operation, the window sash will be raised to the desired height, and the supporting and holding device placed thereunder, after which the upper channel member II will be moved upwardly until the lower surface of the sash frame is seated upon the parallel sash supporting arms, and the pawl or dog I6 is engaged on the nearest adjacent seat 3 in the proper notch 2.
' the scope of the invention reefers; asih As before mentioned, the parallel'a'rms I2 and for adjustably retaining said pawl in engagement l3 will support the lower window sash in a step with the desired shoulder, and a window sash u by step manner until the sash has been raised 7 supporting plate pivotally supported upon the approximately one-half of its full or open posiforward edge of one side of said channeled memtion, and for supporting thesash from that point her and adapted to be swung over the top of said u t t is ul y ope e Sash W l be Seated upon channeled member to provide a supporting seat the pivoted plate l9 disposed upon the upper end for a window sash.
