3 Claims.
The invention relates to windows.
The general object of the invention is to provide a window sash construction adapted for mounting in a window frame opening and provided with interchangeable glazed sash and screen sash. More particularly, the invention has for its object a simple and improved form of pivotal mounting for the upper and lower glazed sash sections and the lower screen sash section.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved sash frame construction.
The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter described and more particularly dened by claims at the conclusion hereof.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral I I designates the permanent window frame in which the frame I2 of my improved sash construction is removably mounted and secured by the buttons I3. .Y
The frame I2 comprises side uprights I4 and an upper cross frame member I5 of Wood and a lower cross bar I6 of metal secured to the lower ends of the uprights I4 at the inner sides thereof. This frame has a metal sash support and pivot bar I1 of U-shaped construction whose legs I8 are anchored at their ends I9 to the outside of the uprlghts I4 intermediate their ends, the transverse portion 20 of said bar being of round cross section.
The opening 2| of the frame I2 is adapted to receive sets of glazed sash or screen sash. As shown in Figs. 1 to '1, a pair of glazed sash 22 are mounted in this frame. each including a frame 23 in which the glass 24 is mounted and secured.
V"The upper of the sashes 22 is provided on its lower front side with spaced bearing brackets 25 adapted to pivotally engage the transverse portion 20 of the bar I1.

For` locking each sash in closed position, the frame I2 carries brackets 34 mounted on the inner side of the uprights I4 and provided with an elongated opening 35 and a slot 36 extending into the medial portion of said opening. Each sash 22 carries bars 31 pivotally mounted thereon at 3B and adapted for insertion in the openings 35 and provided with ringed handle ends 39. Each sash also is provided with hooks or catches 40 adapted to engage the bars 31 when the sash is closed and the bars 31 are turned down to engage with said catches, as shown in Figs.. 4 and 5. In the open position of the sash, the bars 31 form stops to limit the extent of opening or swing of the sash about the pivot bar I1, each bar 31 having a notch 4I (see Fig. 10) that engages the side of its bracket 34 when the sash is in an open position. These notches 4I also permit the removal of the bars 31 from the brackets 34 when it is desired to remove the sashes 22 from the frame I2 because they allow the bars 31 to be passed through the slots 36.
Sash similar in construction to the glazed sash 22 but having screen instead of glass may be used interchangeably with the sash 22 above described, but to simplify the construction I prefer to use the screen sash 42 shown in Figs. 8 and 9.
The upper screen sash 42 has a frame 43 of the general form of the glazed sash and adapted to iit within the frame I2 in weathering contact therewith except that it is not mounted on the bar I1 but is secured in position in the vframe I2 The lower of the sashes 22 is provided on its upper front side with spaced bearing brackets or rounded hooks 26 adapted to pivotally enr gage the transverse portion 20 of the bar I1.v Thus both sash 22 are hung from or adapted to by buttons 44, as shown in Fig. 8. The lower screen sash 42 is generally similar to the lower sash 22 and has hooks (not shown) similar to the hooks 26 to engage the bar I1, so that this lower section may be swung outwardly, if desired, but instead of using the locking means heretofore described including the bars 31, this sash 43 is held in closed position by the buttons 45. The upper screen sash has handles 41 mounted thereon, and the lower screen sash has a handle 48.
