Description
' 2 SheetsSheet 1- T. w. THOMAS A ril ll, 1950 Fi1ed Nov. 30 1945 nd in con1hiunic9(ti01 With conventional water distr1buting pipes. Also extending through the top of the tank is a Water imet 26 restricted or reduced in dimeter as at z| near its lower end. Directly beneath this reduced end of the inlet z6 is a diagona 1 slo 28 to serve as a vacuum breaker in the water supply line shomd the water be shut 01T, and thus prevent any backnow caused by Syphonic 8ction ';'he slot )eventS excessive water supply being forced into the heater, and thus causes less mixtue of cold water with he heated water at the top f the tank. The lovvernst end of the inlet 26 is connected by a coupling 29 vvith one end of a water coil whose opposite end ternlinates just above the disc l'| 9.s Shown and adapted to direct incon1ing water through the openings 2| into the iushing chanlber 2DA. The water in the tank is then heated 'by the burner ls' At predetermined in tervas the drain valve |9^` is opened to drain 0ff any linle scale, rust or other residue which nlay have acculated vvithin the flushing chalnber.
The incoming water Wihin the coil 3I partakes of the emperature 0f the water in the tank The botton1 0pen ...nd of the coil directs the incoming water directly onto the heated plate |T and is thereby prehe ted.
vvhile have shown a particular forIn of em bodiment of my invention, a ll aware that many Ininor chngeS therein vvill readily suggest then1 Selves to 0herS Skilled in the art v-ithout departing fron1 the spirit and scope of the invention Hving thus described my invention, what claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A Water heater consisting of an insulated housing, a tank disposed within the housing in spaced relation theret0. baes disposed between the tank a1d the housing, a condujt open at both of its ends extending through the tank and flanged at its lower end, a heating elernent dis posed beneath the anged end of the conduit, a disc having a depend1g annular wa11 disposed above the nanged end of the cond11it to forn1 a flushing chan1ber, 0penings fornled in Said disc and its said depend1g vvall. a water inlet and a Water outlet extending in 0 the upper end of the tank said inlet connectmg with one end of a water coil dis osed within the tank and whose opposite end terminates on the top su1-face of said disc for directing a portion of the incon]ing water through said opel1ings in the disc and its depending wal1 into said 1 lushing chan1ber, Sald inlet being reduced in dianleter adjacent its point of connection with the said one end of the water coil a vacuun1 breaker in the form of a diagona1 slot formed in said itllet between said reduction in diameter of the in1et and its said ointof conhection with the water coi1, and an outlet for draining the contents of the nushing chamber THOs w. THOMAS.
