Application July 9, 1949, Serial No. 103,845
2 Claims.
The present invention has to do with a perfume dispenser and is concerned primarily with a dispenser that is made as the replica of a live figure.
At the present time, members of the female sex which comprise the large majority of the users of perfume are desirous of having the perfume available in a dispenser which presents an attractive appearance when exposed to view on a dressing table. Following this trend the present invention has in view as its foremost objective the provision of a perfume dispenser'which takes the form of the representation of a livefigure.
While it is possible and entirely practical to simulate almost any live figure in producing such a dispenser, the invention has particularly in mind the figure of a woman.
It is, of course, necessary to provide a discharge opening together with a removable closure for the opening. Thus another object is to provide, in a perfume dispenser of the type indicated, a live figure having a mouth which is fashioned to constitute the discharge opening.
In providing a closure for the discharge opening, the invention proposes the useof anelement whichblends in with the figure; 'thus, with the dispenser taking the form of a woman, the closure for the discharge opening takes the form of a cigarette which is adapted to function as a plug for the discharge opening.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a perfume dispenser of the type indicated which consists of a hollow replica of a live figure. This hollow figure is preferably made from an appropriate metal and the discharge opening at the mouth is provided with threads. The ci arette which closes this opening is also provided with threads whereby it is constituted a screw Plug.
In view of the fact that the figure is hollow and there is not much thickness of metal at the discharge opening, the extent of the threaded engagement between the cigarette and the discharge opening is very limited. In view of this condition the invention has as a further object the provision, in a perfume dispenser of the character noted, of means for supporting the cigarette in sealing position. This means preferably takes the form of the fingers of the figure. The representation of the woman is thus fashioned so that her fingers engage the cigarette in close proximity to the mouth and thereby affords the addi-v tional support for the cigarette.
Still another object of the invention is the provision, in a perfume dispenser which consists of a hollow figure of the type noted, of a vial for containing the perfume which is enclosed within the figure together with a tube which leads from this valve to the mouth'of the figure.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide' a slightly modified form of dispenser in which the upper portion of the hollow figure closed off as by a partition and is thereby adapted to function as a container for the perfume. This upper closed off portion is in direct communication with the discharge opening.
Various other more detailed objects and advantages of the invention, such as arise inconnection with carrying out the above noted ideas in a practical embodiment, will in part become apparent and in part will be hereinafter statedas the description of the invention proceeds.
The invention therefore comprises a perfume dispenser which takes the form of a hollow live figure, such as that'of a'woman; which has a discharge opening that is closed by a removable element, which blends in with the figure,'such as a cigarette which is supported by the fingers of g the woman depicted by the figure' For a full and more complete understanding of the invention, referencemay be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a perfume dispenser designed in accordance with the precepts of this invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view developing certain portions of the figure of Figure 1 on an enlarged scale;
Figure 3 is a view, partly in section and partly in elevation, developing a modification; and
Figure 4 is a perspective taken on an enlarged scale showing the cigarette as removed from the discharge opening.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts and first more particularly to Figure 1, the perfume dispenser is illustrated as comprising a replica of a live figure that is designated l0. Obviously, this figure It! may be the representation of any live figure desired. As shown in the drawing, it
takes the form of a woman standing upright on a pedestal ll having a fiat bottom surface at l2 whereby it is adapted to rest on an appropriate support such as a dressing table. Obviously, the woman could be depicted in numerous other positions.
The features of the figure with which this invention is particularly concerned are that it be hollow and have a head at I3 formed with a discharge opening at I4 at the mouth thereof.
In the form of the invention shown in Figure 4, the discharge opening 14 is provided with threads IS. A screw plug for closing the discharge opening I4 takes the form of an elongated member 16 which is made as the representation of a cigarette. The member [6 is provided with screw threads as shown at IT and these threads I! are adapted to be screwed into the threads [5.
The figure l includes an arm [8 which terminates in a hand l9 having a pair of fingers and 2| that are spread apart and located against the face of the head 14 so that the discharge opening [4 opens into the space between the fingers. Thus, when the cigarette I6 is in sealing position, the fingers 20 and 2| function as a support for the cigarette.
As shown in Figure 3, the hollow figure In is provided with a partition 22 which closes off the upper portion of the figure and adapts the latter to function as a chamber for receiving the perfume. This chamber is designated 23 and is in direct communication with the discharge opening I4.
Figure 2 illustrates a form of the invention in which a vial for containing the perfume is enclosed within the figure Hi. When the form of Figure 2 is followed, the figure I0 is preferably of a two part construction to facilitate assembly. The upper part i designated A and the lower part B. These parts are provided with an oVerlapping joint at 24 which provides an inner tu elike flange 25 and from which extends inwardly a supporting flange 26. A vial 21 is received within-the flange '25 and is supported by the flange 26. Extending upwardly from the vial 21 is a tube 28, the upper end of which is positioned in the discharge opening M. In this form of the invention, the bore of the tube 28 adjacent to its free end is provided with threads 29 which receive the threads I! on the cigarette I6.
The manner of using the perfume dispenser is identical for both forms of the invention illustrated. When the dispenser is not in use, the cigarette I6 is screwed into the discharge openmg. When perfume is who discharged, the cigarette I6 is removed by an unscrewing operation and the figure I0 is manipulated to cause perfume to emerge from the discharge opening. After the discharge opening operation is completed, the cigarette I6 is replaced to again close the discharge opening.
While preferred specific embodiments of the invention are hereinbefore set forth, it is to be clearly understood that the invention is not to be limited to the exact constructions, configurations and devices illustrated and described be cause various modifications of these details may be provided in putting the invention into practice within the purview of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
i. A perfume dispenser, comprising a replica of a live figure having a mouth, adapted to contain a liquid and having a discharge opening terminating at the mouth, of a rod having the contour of a cigarette with its inner end solid and detachably connected with said discharge opening to seal it, said rod extending laterally and outwardly between the lips of the mouth and exterior of the replica to present the appearance of a live figure smoking a cigarette.
2. The construction defined in claim 1, wherein the replica has one hand in raised position in proximity to the mouth with the rod passing between adjacent fingers of the hand to indicate that the rod is being held by thefingers in smoking position.
